The Blogging Scene

I am making some connections but my physical disabilities prevent me from doing much. This blog is truly amazing, not much there because it is mostly me, yet it keeps up ahead of the others. That is about as far as I can go by myself. One more good independent and unique opinion would see wonders in this blog. Each Guest Blogger should be worth over 20 to 30 average hits per day. Not to even mention the good photos that the reader/dancers would be glad to see.  So email them in, along with whatever else you want in. This blog is for the reader/dancers of Oahu. We may see less of the "To Whom It May Concern" kind and perhaps half of every blog in Feedback from our fellow dancers.

“Social dancers become dancers because they loved moving to music but
they also got to be active participants in the conversation about dance.”

Waikiki is jumping all over with plenty of hot places to enjoy. But there is something doing in town too and some is spreading over into Kalihi. The Rail Tragedy has slow things in the corridor up to Waipahu. But Kapolei all the way up to Makaha is wide open. The Central Valley proceeding nicely. And then there is North Shore and what slowed them down was the veto of a new housing development because it would also attract a Business Park. The Fat Cats in Honolulu want everyone to deal with them. The Trump mottos. "It's the bread, Fred. - It's the dough, Moe."

1990  "I Don't Have the Heart"  by James Ingram

Social Dance on Oahu is proceeding along the same lines except that in this century, there is a much bigger acceptance that the day of the Big Bands and the Big Ballrooms is over. Most Community Centers have rooms that are nice but they could be a little larger. The right size I would not know but the teachers of dancing on Oahu would certainly have an idea. Probably about one third the size of the famous Palladium. Rome was not built in a day.

"If nobody ever said anything unless they knew what they were talking about,
a ghostly hush would descend upon the earth."

Trump, The Worst

Americans who voted against Trump are feeling unprecedented dread and despair
By David Horsey, LA Times

I have never seen anything quite like the grief being felt by the majority of American voters who did not vote for Donald Trump. Back in 1980, there was disappointment among Democrats when Ronald Reagan won. In 2000, after the long Florida recount and the intrusion of the Supreme Court into the decision, there were plenty of upset people who thought Al Gore, not George W. Bush, deserved to be president. But the losing voters in those elections were not despondent.

“Social dancers can think of dance as a poetic journey with emotions
and experience packed up in the form of movement to music."

They were not breaking out in tears weeks later. They were not waking up each morning with feelings of dread about what was to come. This time it is different and, in my experience, unique. This is not simply a case of Hillary Clinton supporters being bad losers. For most of those who feel traumatized by what happened on Nov. 8, this is not about the candidate who won the popular vote, yet lost the election. It is about the candidate who was picked as president by the electoral college on Monday.

People are mourning because the fate of their country will now be in the hands of an intellectually uninterested, reckless, mendacious narcissist. It is not just Democrats. There are plenty of conservatives and Republicans among those feeling depressed. Their party has been captured by a man who has no bedrock belief in any principle; a man whose only allegiance appears to be to himself and money. Some of you are stuck with him. Tough.

Carolina Dance Club

Since 1999 the Carolina Dance Club (CDC) has been promoting the wonderful diversity and passion of Swing, Salsa and partner dancing here in the Triangle, North Carolina area. We strongly believe in making social dance affordable and accessible to everyone and work to bring the highest quality of dance instruction and music enjoyment to our community. Our club began 19 years ago hosting a monthly Swing dance with 30 or 40 passionate, devoted dancers. Today our club numbers 250+ members and is celebrating 14 years of weekly Sunday Night Swing dancing and afternoon Salsa and afternoon Ballroom dancing at the beautiful Raleigh Elks Lodge.

“If people listen to music and dance every day, they find happiness
and sacred solutions to many problems.”

On any giving Sunday 110 to 160 dancers of all ages will be swinging, dancing and making new friendships and connections with people from across the Triangle/Triad area. All dance activities are smoke free and open to the public. Fostering and promoting outreach within our local dance community has been an important goal of our club. We do this by co-sponsoring dance events with local dance instructors, promoters and dance organizations that share a common purpose – bringing the joy of social dance to people of all ages and backgrounds.

We support many non-profit organizations with fundraising initiatives at our Sunday Elks Lodge dances. If you are a non-profit and would like our support, let us know. This philosophy of inclusion and a sense of giving back to the community we live and dance in has guided our club activities and has helped us build our dance club into a friendly, active and growing organization. We invite you to come out and dance with us, enjoy friendly people, share your talents and your passion for social dancing every Sunday afternoon and evening. and not everything that can be counted counts."

Demographics

No worry, it is just numbers. Oahu has almost one million people, and Honolulu has less than 40% of that total. That gives the rest of the island a little strength but not what it should have. I have found this out because Platinum Horseshoe blog is doing so well with so little to offer the reader/dancers. If there are 30 thousand dancers on Oahu, (no I didn't count them) then we should have 18000 dancers on the outskirts, more than half. They are over due to live, work and play in their own kuleanas. Kapolei as Second City is a good beginning, and then there has to be the Third City.

Traffic to and from Honolulu is without question "bad" and in Honolulu it is even worse. Everyone already knows that the Rail is one big Money disaster. And some have already become multi-millionaires in a short time. The name "Gravy Train" is very convenient as is also "Easy Money." The estimates have gone from the original 5 Billion dollars to over ten now. It is costing more than one million dollars per day. And who is getting the money? No body knows and nobody is going to find out either. The Present Rail Party has made sure of that. More electric cars are coming in. When you are stuck in a traffic jam. Your gas buggy is burning up the gas. In an electric, you just stopped running. Simple?

Meanwhile, we are trying to find a group ready to make a social dance club on the Waianae Coast. Now that I am beginning to know my demographics, I can see enough dancers on the Waianae Coast developing a good dance club with some very good people. Then there is the North Shore. Not only from the North Shore but also from the Northern part of the Central Valley and from the Northern part of the Windward Side. Can anybody see that? Of course I don't know if it will be night clubs or the social clubs first. Either way there will be dancing in West Oahu. And most of the social dancers in this century understand that the day of the Big Bands and the Big Ballrooms is over.

Social Line dancers

I had never noticed before that there is more line dancing in Night Clubs on Oahu. It is easy thing to get into it at break time from regular partner dancing in the evening about ten PM. They use the KISS method, "Keep It Simple, Stupid." And it seems that many of the best developing women dancers are coming into the partner dancing world of Social Dancing from the line dancers. Not like old times when the club dancer evolved from "street" dancing, but that is becoming scarce nowadays. Meanwhile, line dancing is already an accepted part of the Social Dance scene. So men wannabees can get more into that, even if just for the fun of it.

"Social dancers love to focus on the lyrics but sometimes they focus
on the lyrics too much and forget to dance to the music.”

In line dancing you first learn to enjoy moving to the music that is usually played in most social dances, and in dancing, moving to the music is it, recreational dances or cultural dances and perhaps even in Night Clubs. Eventually we will find the best terminology. And in line dancing they have one of the greatest inventions in the world, the Playlist. You will learn to dance to the music not the beat. It will be because you like that song, not because you can dance rumba to it. You will become a social dancer.
"Dancing the Electric Side to the Electric Boogie song."

Then you will develop, on your own, just dancing and enjoying the few sequence steps in each dance, the "timing" for each dance. Anyone can step one, two, three on the Waltz, but very soon, the "rhythm" comes in and you will want to stress the movement on the one count. Natural. Then you will develop your own unique style, all on your own and you will feel comfortable with the entire package, music, timing, rhythm and your own style. From there it is just skip and a jump to partner dancing. There are over 500 documented steps in every dance. To dance socially and for fun, keep away from anything that smacks of intermediate or advance. That is for OP (Other People.)

4th. of July

Independence Day, also referred to as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The Continental Congress declared that the thirteen American colonies regarded themselves as a new nation, the United States of America, and were no longer part of the British Empire.

In spite of the lies coming from the Trump Fake News Agency. Things are in very bad shape for the ordinary citizens of this country. And it is our country not theirs. They are still tearing down everything that made America great for 250 years. What the hell happened? We must get rid of all the lying republican crooks and get our country back again.
