Looking Good

Just got back from my visit to the VA, nice trip. Was picked up at home by VA-DAV van and taken to the VA. The news was good at the VA and the stitches were removed and from the VA I was delivered back home. Never in my life did  I think that would be possible. Things are looking up. The bus situation will bother me less, I only feel sorry for the many that have to pay for the Rail Disaster in money and time.

"Social Dancing is contagious, help start an Island epidemic."

However, due to my deteriorating health, I must cut back and keep it slow. I cannot get around much anymore but I will monitor my stats daily. I will post the Stats for our entire blogosphere for the month of July. I will post the stats first day in the month in the Town Dancer blog, so that the most people will see the results. And if one of the blogs is eliminated, no one will question why, they will be able to see it plainly in the hits.

Meanwwhile, I will have to start looking up some information on line dancing and bring everybody up to date. Line dancing's current popularity grew out of the disco period, when the country-western dance and music communities continued to explore and develop this form of dancing.

Waianae Quote: No matter where you go, there you are!

Billy Ray Cyrus' 1992 hit Achy Breaky Heart, helped catapult western line dancing back into the musical mainstream's public consciousness. Then in 1998, the band Steps created further interest with the techno dance song "5,6,7,8". From there it has spread out to other types of dances and no one insists on wearing cowboy hats and boots.

Good Idea

But it may not come to pass. Too many are against it, mainly the Present Rail Party. KMart moving to the Waianae Coast. With Walmart the latest competitor on top of Longs, Office Max and Target, the time has come for the agonizing reappraisals.

"Your work may be to discover your world, then perhaps
with all your heart you can give yourself to it."

I have heard of Nanakuli because it would still be close to Kapolei, but I think Laulualei is much more needed. They could serve as anchor for another shopping center in the Nanakuli area. All two story stuff and close enough to the new Lualualei Industrial Park. Whatta combination and think of all those good people that could get home in 20 minutes after work. Wow, now we could talk about living in Paradise.

The beautiful Waipio Industrial Park, the residents that work here, worship the very ground.

The geographic distribution of industrial space on Oahu is also allocated among 11 major sub-markets, with the four largest market areas identified as: Kalihi/Sand Island, Airport/Mapunapuna, (in the process of being completely destroyed.) Campbell Industrial Park/Kapolei Business Park (controled by the Present Rail Party) and Bougainville/Halawa (an area that will bloom). The Waianae market area does not merit inclusion within the tabular data published by Colliers. Everything there has been very carefully stopped.

Still Has Possibilties

We just have to face it, the hits are going down. For this blog they have gone to less that the twenty average per day which had been for well over that for months. But my health calls for a cutback and I may have to delete one of them soon. If the reader/dancers cannot share with their fellow dancers then we must accept.

"The pupil can only educate himself. Teachers are the custodians
of the apparatus upon which he himself must turn and twist to acquire
the excellencies that distinguish the better from the poorer of
God's vessels."  ~Martin H. Fischer

I will post the monthly stats of our entire blogsphere at the end of every month in the Town Dancer blog. Everyone will be able to see the results and make up their own minds. At the end of August the reader/dancers will have pretty well decided the fate of the worst blog, which is only fair.

Things were looking good for Moanalua Corridor. Nothing spectacular, but solid as she goes even if we do not hear much from them. With renewed interest from Pearl City, Pearlridge and Aiea, it could catch up to Kapolei Social Dance. The two HBDA Chapters will do a lot for Kapolei. Add a Night Club and Dance Studio in the vicinity and the blog will be rolling.

Of course, it cannot do that without the Two Center and a Guest Author. It stands clear that Kapolei Social Dance is in the middle of the developing western dance environment. Kalealoa, Barber's Point and Honokai Hale will be the upcoming spots. A couple steady Two Centers and one Guest Author would send it to the clouds. And I am hoping one of these blogs will go independent one of these days.

Pub's Side Note: Check out Richie's blog in Town Dancer. That is not SOS. That is pertinent up to date information for the reader/dancers. Dat's da kine.

Da Latest

My health requires it and I will slow down. However that does not mean we have stopped. Everything is still in front of us and evolving for the good of all.

"My Cup Runneth Over" by Max Bygraves

We must continually seek other views, and opinions. We must include photos of more different people. How about viewpoints from Line dancers, Salsa dancers, Swing dancers and even the Studio dancers. We are all a part of the dance community and for far too long we have had "loyalty apartheid."

The same views (SOS) day after day is counter productive for our aims. At the same time we are standardizing the dance that we dance in the Fusion, Free Style, Cultural or whatevah kine dance. The invitation to all outsiders, insiders, and fellow travelers remains and those that prefer to be out, shall remain out. This  seem to be very well understood by most of our readers.

Town Dancer is very comfortable in the 160s (average hits per day) range at present. Almost 5000 hits per month. I don't care what anyone says, but that is communication. With two additional Guest Authors it could go easily into the 200s and ready for independence. I have my hopes up for this. On their own, they will meet up with a lot of new people and there will be no stopping them.

"Somewhere Over The Rainbow" by Bruddah Iz

Meanwhile I will post the Stats on each blog at the end of the month in the Town Dancer blog. This will include the average hits per day on each blog. It should then come as no surprise if and when one of them is deleted. I will make the Statement on it's last 30 days.

The Change

Since my fall, things are changing a lot more drastically. I cannot cover the same ground that I covered before and even that was not enough. Now, I have been cutting back on everything and it shows in the hits. "Down." The total average hits per day on all the blogs dropped from about 330 to about 310, and this with Town Dancer doing so well.

"We should plan most of the time, but I guess it is all right
if sometimes we just wing it."

At the end of the month, I will post the list of our blogs and include the average hits per day for each blog. If and when anyone of them is eliminated, no one will question it. No hits, no use. And we can make the best use of what we have left.

"Sh-Boom, Life Could Be A Dream." by the Crew Cuts

The misunderstanding usually occurs when the possible Guest Authors think that they must be "gurus" and that they must make a commitment. But all that is necessary is that independent opinion. What I write is referred to in dance blogging circles as SOS (same old shit.) Anything else from anyone is not. Very simple. And you will see the results plainly in the monthly posting of our blog stats.

Down She Goes

"And Where She Stops, Nobody Knows."

In the last ten days since my fall the total hits on all the blogs have dropped from about 330 average hits per day to about 310. Even with Town Dancer holding up as well as they have. The total hits will go down even more for I am just not in condition to get the information needed.

"I may be guilty of giving people more chances than they deserve,
but usually when I am done, I am done."

Is dancing competitive? I guess we cannot get away from it. Anyone who is sceptical of this should go to anyone of the new studios in Honolulu. They have really come into prominence in the last few months in all the blogs. From my reading of the blogs it is all with good reason and they have become well known throughout the Islands.

Easy to get into the regular official competition coming soon. Talk about competition! People are trying to psych each other out on the dance floor, intentional contacts and screaming support from the audience. Tears, crying, cheers, laughter. The dance floor can be an emotional place.

It is not unusual for dancers to practice up to 15 hours a week and sometimes more. Some literally eat, drink and sleep dancing. Supplementing their dance practice with fitness and cross training to ensure they will be ready to compete. With the new Aloha Star Ball coming up it may be a new world out there. We will all be able to see which groups produce the most consistent winners in the International Style of Dance. Surprised? What do I know? That is the name of their game.

"The World Is Waiting For The Sunrise" by Les Paul and Mary Ford.

Anyway, there will be a list of our blog stats posted in Town Dancer on the last day of every month. If any one of the blogs is going to be deleted, everyone will be able to see the reason and no questions need be asked. Advertising? No, we do not have any advertising.

Everyone will also see that a blog such as Town Dancer merely provides the platform. Each Blogger has their own blog and is completely responsible for whatever goes in. Simple enough, and anyone can do this in any of the other blogs. For sure everyone would see it in the hits. Guaranteed.

Dance Blog For Sale

Not really, for you see blogs are not like Web sites which must have a Host and should have Professional Designers. Dance Blogs are free and they just require opinions from anyone to share with their fellow dancers. And of course find the way to do that blogging in a as pleasant a way as possible.

I went today to the VA and get the review of my health. They are doing very well for me, now that I am more handicapped. They gave me an Aluminum Walker to keep me from falling down, but they gave the real slow kind with wheels on in the front only. I will have to buy me one more deluxe with four wheels. The next appointment is on Thursday, June 31st. They will pick my up Nanakuli and take me to the VA an back home again.

Then I must figure to get rid of as many of my nine good solid blogs as possible, with almost a half million hits on record. You don't have to start at zero. Perhaps there is a group of two or three that would like to bring something of theirs to our type of social dancing. Bachata, Salsa, Swing, Tango and the new Brazilian Samba styles. Each one of course could write whatever and whenever they wished and could consult with each other, Then could then choose an administrator so that I could resign. Then it is all yours and you make the rules. You can even change the name of blog and hope the reader/dancers stick.

"Stranger In Paradise" by Tony Bennett.

Whatever, the day of running a club into the ground by Creative Researches And Producers is over. More opinions to cover social dance groups and hopefully find more people willing to help make a bigger group. And you will notice everyone getting friendlier all around. The new bloggers will do it. The entire enchilada will get Biggah, Bettah.

For Whom The Bell Tolls

Most Authors from the last century Titled their Novels from something they liked from the Poets and it fits this novel by Ernest Hemingway like a glove. Perhaps some of you remember the movie starring Gary Gooper.

From John Donne, the poet:
"No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the Continent, a part of the main; if a Clod be washed away by the Sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a Promontory were, as well as if a Manor of thy friends or of thine own were; any mans death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankind; And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee"

"Vaya Con Dios" by Les Paul And Mary Ford.

With my physical capabilities diminishing so quickly, I may have may be a year to wind up this entire enchilada. I cannot walk and must use a Walker, I have Vertigo. Town Dancer had been destined to be first but no one want to attempt competing with Calvin and his team. We cannot blame them. So be it. Now at end of every month, I will post the blogs according to monthly hits. I would suggest taking the bottom ones, NO Competition. With two or three regular contributing Guest Authors, the hits would increase and everyone would know why.The entire dance group would benefit.

So I asked him.:
What is the difference between ignorance and apathy?

A: I don’t know, and I don’t care.

One more thing. When you were a child, you thought your parents were always right. Through high school and college, you thought your parents were always wrong. After college, you’ll realize that your parents were often right. And then, believe it or not, you’ll eventually become your parents. Wrap your young minds around that,

Adjusting Themselves.

The blogs are doing very well by themselves. Not breaking records but they do convey information for the continued construction of these blogs. I need help, there is no doubt of that but for whoever wants to get  in, it is already up and running. Look what Calvin, Debra and Richard have done in Town Dancer. Just amazing!

"Common sense and a sense of humor are the same thing, moving at different speeds. A sense of humor is just common sense, dancing."
~ William James

No commitment, we just provide the platform, and then they blog whenever and whatever they wish. Of course you may develop a commitment to your readers but that is strictly between you and them. Then gurus are not needed. We have plenty of those discoursing every day all over the internet. We need an honest opinion from anyone. Now that is the gold mine we are seeking. If that person can also share a few photos with their fellow dancers (strictly their opinion) we will have it made in the shade and we will have Social Media.

Pub's Side Note: We also offer any dance organization that does not have a Web site, a free Mini Web Site in our special Gadget Spot. A letter size poster will be fine.

New Ground For Me

The ending of the old is a new era for me that is about to start. I have accepted the facts that my physical defects make it imperative the I stop social dancing. Put together with the difficulty developing for the users of Public Transportation clinches it.

And it all came about on Thursday at the VA, I took my blood test just fine, and went down the hall to my waiting module 4. But the results will take a while and I thought I would go to #2 module where they have more magazines. But then at the last minute I went out the door to see the area. Then turned to go down the walk and noticed the wet pavement but paid no attention. My fault.

At that time a got a little of my Vertigo and with the slippery pavement, I went town hitting very badly. Fortunately it happened at the VA. A couple soldiers helped me up and went with me back into the VA. We ended up waiting for my regular Doctor Laura Wong. The nurses were perfect in helping to clean the wounds, take my vitals and make me feel comfortable. Good for my mental outlook.

Doctor Wong came in and analyzed everything nicely and called in a specialist Dr. Cheng for the stitches. The entire procedure was a perfect way to describe this VA facility in Hawaii. I cannot complain. I keep thinking they are magicians but I must be in agreement with everyone else that they just know their business and they intend to help me. I couldn't ask for anything more.

I got this from another blog, so I will take the chance.

Of course, several years ago, I was taken to task for "publishing their personal emails" I asked where, when, what? And no answer. I deleted everything of theirs and informed them. They were upset and I never received anything again.

Than a few years back I wanted to help some on coming from Kauai and went through it again. This time I realized it was with malicious intent and forgot about asking anything. I dropped them like a hot potato. So please folks, I want to help but I can be stopped. Meanwhile I have much work ahead of me, I am running out of time and I must be on my way. Mahalo and Good Luck to all.

The Goodies @ 7/18/14

Will never be again, this way:
The entire coast seems to be perking up a little in spite of the coming Rail Disaster or maybe because of it. For sure no one likes the awful run around set up by the Ivory Towers to get to town. And it seems like some places are staying open just a little longer. Nice, we may find a way to get along without Honolulu in a Paradise of our own.

Zion Ipuka, an organization from Makaha that appears every Tuesday afternoon, from 5 to 6 pm to offer free food to the needy is looking good. Unfortunately they do not have ready access to computers so they do not know what we are offering here.

They can learn to read the weekly goodies section and perhaps one of their members will get one of the free goodies. Otherwise they may know someone willing to buy at the going price. It comes down every week.

"I love tango, and I used to dance when I was young." ~Pope Francis

This Goodies blog will continue to be posted every Friday Evening after I get the magic last two numbers from the closing Dow Jones Industrial on the Mainland. Prize Number One will be the last two of the Dow Jones number. Prize #2 will be one number higher than the Dow and Prize #3, two numbers higher. Anyone who reads it in a blog and has the same two numbers in the last of their Social Security is da winnah of the item. Easy, just come and pick it up.

With the Rail Disaster getting worse, I must help all those wishing to work on the Waianae Coast. One week ad for free in this space, can be renewed at no extra charge. I am not kidding or trying to sell anything. Minimum wage on the Waianae Coast is worth ten times what it is worth in downtown Honolulu. "And I coulda been home in 20 minutes." I just wanna help, 'kay?

The Winning Numbah is 18 (from the Dow Jones, Friday closing.) You also have the option to buy the item at the set price of $250 for the week ending July 25th. If not won or sold it will go down in price $10 per week.

Used only enough to know, Windows 8 is not my cup of tea.
Good for the young people.

The Winning Numbah is 19 (the last two on your Social Security Number) or you have the option to buy the item at the set price of $210 for the week ending July 25th. And if not won or sold it will go down $10 per week.

It is an EMachine normal size desktop computer, original with Windows Vista. Then I got a bargain and installed Windows 8 on it, just to try it out. But Windows 8 is way out and I am too old for this new stuff. I got myself a Window 7 and it is good enough for me. Windows 8 is good for young people, I made a clean install and it is ready to go with the OS Disks, the mouse and the keyboard too.

The Winning Numbah is 20 and you can hope it matches the last two of your Social Security Number. La Jolla White Side Walled Balloon Tire Bike. 26" in terrific condition. I am just too old for this sort of thing. Cost $140.00 new, so you have the choice of buying it at the price of $65 for the week ending July 25th and it will go down $5 per week until it gets to $50 and then will be donated.

No Freebies this week, I am making deals so that I don't have to beg anyone to take the item. I just gave a good 22" Monitor to a good group that helps others. And this week they got three cheap watches. You know of a good organization that helps people. Dats da kine. The set price is set every week and drops in price until it reaches $50. Then it is off the books. Anyone know of a worthy organization or school, (hard to find without begging) I will donate one of the $50 items, ASAP. Simple.

Meanwhile check your social security number.

Coming Up Nice

I have been noticing the advance in the Waianae Coast since I first moved here some years back. There is more bustle and hustle about the Coast than going to Honolulu or even Kapolei. The entity of togetherness is being forced by the Rail Disaster, which is already making it much harder to even get to Kapolei. We have to find ways to avoid going to Honolulu at all costs. And we know we will be fortunate not have to put with the noise that the people along the corridor will suffer through.

"Most of us will be judged not on our successes but
how many times we fell and got up again."

Tamura has been in the forefront with good sales in a semi monthly publication. Sack N Save in Nanakuli has been in the weekly advertising with good loss leaders and bargains for all. Now Longs has joined in with some goodies in the grocery departments too. No need to go anywhere else. We got most of it right here on the coast.

No one has mention third city but the feeling is growing. With a few more Industrial Parks and plenty people working close to home. Wow! Then perhaps a KMart or Walmart and we will almost have it. We can live, work and play in a Paradise of our own making. And we can visit Honolulu once maybe twice a year, as tourists. Why not?

So I am looking for the first real legitimate Cocktail Lounge in a Shopping center to give it a little more Nite life. Though some of the Shopping Centers are doing very well staying open until past ten pm. With a Cocktail Lounge, they would go midnight for sure. Walgreens Drugstore would have done wonders for Nanakuli but the Present Rail Party screwed that one up.

Then there seem to be more groups out to help their fellow citizens. Cockaroaching is on its way out and people recognize that druggies are losers. We are going in the right direction. Now I would like to see some social dancing every Saturday night on the best dance floor in the West. That is in the Waianae District Park. Just beautiful.

Ordinary Communication Media is fine: To whom it may concern, one way, newsletters, email flyers, web sites. They do their job but there ain't nuttin' like a blog, once you get a Two Center.

Fred Astaire

I have made contact with Fred Astaire Dance Studios on the Mainland along with Arthur Murray through my Twitter accounts and they have their hands full where they are at. I have almost deleted all of them, I am doing them no good and it is the same in the other direction. In fact I will concentrate on only Hawaiian Island Twitters. And I have more than one thousand that I am following in four Twitters. I will gradually prune this down to make it really social media.

"The mind is like a parachute, it doesn't work if it is not open."

West Oahu is developing into one of the wealthiest sections on these islands in spite of the Rail Catastrophe. Much interest in ballroom dancing has been aroused. Kapolei Chapter is now the largest chapter in HBDA. And there is a new one Ewa Chapter, HBDA in Ewa Beach and they will make it with our help maybe. And the only Dance Studio in Kapolei does not cover ballroom dancing at all.

"Here In My Heart" by Al Martino

The Oahu West Sector has two Dance Studios, Nix Performing Arts Center and Rosalie Woodson Dance Academy. Both catering to the young and in the performing or exhibition type dancing. With the Arthur Murray Dance Studios in the center of town and in the Windward side, it is more than natural if a new Fred Astaire studio were to be installed in the West Oahu somewhere away from the Rail Disaster.

"We cannot hold a torch to light another's path,
without brightening our own."

Fred Astaire, born in 1899, began show business at the age of 5, performing on Broadway and in vaudeville with his sister, Adele. Then he headed to Hollywood where he began a successful partnership with Ginger Rogers for nine movies. By 1976, he had made 33 musical films with esteemed co-stars such as Joan Crawford, Rita Hayworth, Ann Miller, Debbie Reynolds and Cyd Charisse. He also co-starred with the biggest actors of that time, including Bing Crosby, Red Skelton, and Gene Kelly.

Fred Astaire died in 1987 from pneumonia. With his passing, we lost a true dancing legend. His effortless lightness and grace may never be seen again. Very few are aware that he invented "Rap" in the movie Second Chorus in 1937. As Mikhail Baryshnikov observed at the time of his death, "No dancer can watch Fred Astaire and not know that we all should have been in another business."

All the present Fred Astaire studios are in the Mainland USA.

The Flower Blooms Anew

Wow, I can pick up so much jazz from the Internet. Much of it I don't understand. I have always been a simple dancer with over eight decades of "experience." But I can see the basic groups and the over lapping of all, naturally.

"And the thing about Romantics is that we never give up."

The "street dancers" are becoming fewer and fewer. Dance lessons have become quite common and most people understand that they can learn to dance faster with lessons than just dancing on the floor. Sounds all right with me.

"Stranger In Paradise" by Tony Bennett

From the Internet:
Does dancing require skill?

Well, yes. Look at it this way you can get any member of the public and put them on a rugby field, volleyball court or baseball field and they can play the game. They will play badly compared to those who play regularly but at least they will be able to play a game.

You simply can not do the same for dancing. You can not pick somebody off the street and ask them to compete in say Quickstep or Jive. It is not a case of dancing badly. They simply would not be able to do this form of dancing on a regulation dance floor. Sounds all right with me.

But there is another very definite middle ground where most of us dance. We may have had some lessons and experience and we dance. Some of us may have even done group exhibitions in the social dance clubs. This group has slight differences in their dancing and is still in the process of redefining itself as the biggest group in all of Oahu. All the rest can be considered the Peripherals simply because we outnumber all of them put together.

"Young At Heart"
by Frank Sinatra

Then there is an analysis of dancing by University Researchers:

By using cutting-edge motion-capture technology, we have been able to precisely break down and analyse specific motion patterns in male dancing that seem to influence women’s perceptions of dance quality. We find that the variability and amplitude of movements in the central body regions (head, neck and trunk) and speed of the right knee movements are especially important in signalling dance quality. A ‘good’ dancer thus displays larger and more variable movements in relation to bending and twisting movements of their head.

This can probably be understood by International Dancers but it is beyond me. Mahalo.

Nice to know that I have the Stats down pretty pat. So that whoever is out there, I hope, is willing and able to contribute their 2 cents for the betterment of their friends, neighbors and fellow dancers. And let's keep on dancing.
