Maili, Sea Country

"Trust that when there was no yes or no - you were just ignored.
There is a good yes right down the road."

Maili is right in the center of what we consider the Waianae Coast. Midway between Makaha Resorts and Ko-olina Resorts. The perfect spot for the center of recreation for the citizens of the Waianae Coast. Maili already has some the most beautiful beach parks on the entire Island. A small shopping center on Farrington and a small industrial park back in the valley and many good citizens would have Paradise in their time. Fourteen hour work days in Honolulu would evaporate and they could spend some time with their families.

"I Can Dream, Can't I?" by the Andrew Sisters.

I have already been informed that will never happen. They are going to need all the money they can get to pay for the Rail Disaster. And no one really knows how much, the estimates increase daily. Strangely enough the "C" bus is getting a little better. I have been able to sit down.

Hit a Bump

I expect it sometimes. I suspected this time. One of my twitters has been taken over by at least half a dozen people in politics and others and I could not find any dancing anywhere on it. So it a perfect test to see what will happen. I will leave it alone for a few days and only check in to see what's doin'.

"I know the voices in my head aren't real ..... but sometimes
their ideas are just absolutely awesome!"

This is going to be interesting. Meanwhile, Facebook, Pinterest and Google+ are there but there is no way to see what kind of contact I am making. In blogging the counters are there for all see, and one can tell if they get five hits in one day or fifty hits in one day.

We have had very little on Cinco De Mayo,
but on the Mainland it is going strong.

Next year we are going to have some on Oahu, for sure.

I am making some contact with those that are contributing dance information to the Micros. Perhaps I can get a Two Center for one of the blogs. They are already sharing with other dancers in the Micros, so it would be no sweat to email for Dance Blog and more receptive readers.

I am letting them know little by little. Plenty of Arthur Murray and Fred Astaire Studios. A few may see the advantage of free Public Relations.

Ricks and Racks

Seems as though the Neighbor Islands are beginning to take notice of dancing on the island of Oahu. The smash hit of the latest from Calvin and Debra is a clincher. Of course, Cal, Debra and everyone else are all fortunate to have Jackson Cho in the photography sector willing to share with fellow dancers. The hits on Town Dancer are going through the roof. Tune in for a look-see and you will believe.

"Whether you're trying to learn something new or survive a ton of criticism, sometimes life just hands you lemons. Whatever it is, though, you'll be better off in the end. A smooth sea never made a skillful sailor."

All of these things rub off on the rest of our blogosphere and now we are getting to be noticed in Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and Google+. I do not want to get into any more. Most of our Two Centers will be coming from that sector. They are already accustomed to posting somewhere.

Good News: American Tango has now been recognized as a Tango by Argentines. It was about time. They have nine versions themselves. They can see that the American Tango can be included as another version too? Then I look forward to the fusion of the American Tango with the Filipino Tango in the very near future.

Go to the milongas and dance with different people. Even if you are dating somebody, he has to dance with different women and you have to dance with different men. This way you learn to dance."

The Bottleneck

Well, I finally found it. It definitely is the Two Center. We must have that or we have nothing. For some reason or another, they are not interested at this moment. That is what is holding the blogs up to the point of diminishing returns. We are a long ways from just beating our gums but we must find a way to communicate to more dancers, and a good thing that it is covering more of the entire Hawaiian Islands.

Fred Astaire Burr Ridge from Facebook

The Two Center does not have any commitments. That person can merely email information to be posted to their preferred blog and it will be there for the reader/dancers. That person may do that anytime they wish, it is all up to them. There are no commitments. And as long as it includes our dance environment it will be easy for every one to accept.

"Young At Heart" by Frank Sinatra.

That unique view point of the Two Center is what is so valuable for our blogs. Whatever they say, is their view point which is the value of their info and the same with the photo. And the good part is when they see how good it is received by the reader/dancers. They may feel they are ready to be a guest author and it should be their decision.

May Update

Dance Waianae, the blog is at a plateau of about 20 average hits per day. Not bad, but that is pretty close to the point of diminishing returns for me. We need the Two Center, that person with a different point of view willing to stick their 2 cents in. A little information and a photo would do very nicely. That difference is what will distinguish this blog from many others. Social Media in the making.

The people in the Central Valley enjoying themselves without the
humbug of a Rail Calamity. Lucky, they also have the beautiful
Waipio Industrial Park. Some people got Paradise.

Local small businesses and light industrial operations are rapidly evolving as an important source of jobs for Waianae’s people.  We should encourage the establishment of light industrial businesses that provide jobs for local people, and that are generally compatible with the predominantly commercial centers.

The looming Rail Catastrophe is taking on a huge importance taking much longer to get to a job in town. And the humbug of commuter buses to and from the Rail Stations. We now know that Rapid Transit was a misnomer or a deliberate lie. Knowing the Present Rail Party we all know which one it is.

"You can con some of the people all of the time. and all
of the people some of the time, but you cannot con all
of the people all the time. Who said that?"

A healthy level of small local businesses is essential for the local economy and also lessens the volume of commuter traffic that causes severe congestion on Farrington Highway during morning peak traffic periods. And "I coulda got home in 20 minutes." Wake up Waianae you have nothing to lose but your chains.

Month Ending Nice

Things are looking pretty solid on all fronts. The entire blogsophere is in a nice plateau while things sort themselves out. Down to eight blogs and I will stay with these for the year. All of them safely over the upper teens in average hits per day. They will all be in the twenties by Cinco de Mayo.

"No one promised us a rose garden. we will get some bad along with the good.
Let us stay patient and trust our journey. It will come to an end all too soon."

I am making good progress in contacting my fellow micro users on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and Google+. Some will become Two Centers. Then I have to get an RSS reader so I can get listed in the top 75 blogs in Hawaii. I am sure the ones listed on Dance Fever Oahu will be on the list. With a few Two Centers, the blogs will establish into permanence.

Unfortunately, the micros are full of politics and other extraneous data and not enough dancing. Making contact with the micro users will convince some to Two Cent for a dance blog. Two Centers send the information and/or photos by email to any Guest Author.  The  guest author will work it into a blog. So a regular Two Center will clinch it for a blog and send the hits up guaranteed over 20 average per day.

The Guest Author is much more. They have, in fact, a blog of their own within the blog. They can open, post info and/or photos, publish, whatever and whenever, and close it, all on their own.  They will be the real meat and potatoes of blogging. At any rate, the entire enchilada is looking good. Dance Waianae has no contact with dancers yet but it is getting more solid every day.

Good Teachers

By Ray Ishikawa, Wahiawa

We are certainly fortunate to have so many good teachers, professionals and the amateurs, in social dance, that help for fun. Our teachers seem to have recognized the differences in their students and attempt to work within those differences instead of forcing all students into their own or the studio's particular mold of how the ideal student should appear.

"If you are persistent you will get it.
If you are consistent you will keep it."

The teachers study the differences in bodies and personalities, trying to adapt each person's character technique to match. And it is not always easy. These differences may be found in the arm and leg length, fitness levels, age, height, personal goals, physical handicaps and emotional outlook. Covers everything?

"Dancing In The Dark" by Artie Shaw

The thing is the teachers will adapt the techniques necessary to the individual instead of forcing the individual to adapt to the set technique. Teachers who try to make clones attempt to make each student alike instead of allowing the student to blossom and become uniquely individual, the focus should never be on the technique.

Technique in social dance is like a window and there are two reasons for a window, to look out of and to look into. Technique should be to showcase the inner personality of the dancer in the same way a window showcases the products in a store. Good, efficient and clean technique is like a clean window. It more clearly shows what is on the inside, while poor technique is like a dirty window that clouds the objects inside.

Focusing only on technique in social dance is like focusing on the window and ignoring what is inside. However in a discipline that is to be judged, it can be quite different.

Zits and Zats

Wow, Calvin, Debra and Richie have been doing a very good job holding down the fort on this blog, this week. Hit's going up through the ceiling. I don't really need additional guest authors for the hits. I need them to take the blog over from me, that's all. Just a couple guest authors will do it. The hits will run up way over 200 average hits per day and no other blog will be able to touch them for years.

"One of the hardest parts in life is deciding whether to walk away or try harder."

I can dedicate myself on the other blogs and I will still be around in case they need some help. But it is crucial that we establish any blog as an independent entity. The results of different independent opinions will astound everyone. For too long we have all been led around by the knowitalls. Not anymore, the tide is turning.

"You're So Vain" by Carly Simon

Dance Waianae blog astounds me. No dancing yet but interest has been aroused in the blog. There will be dancing on the Waianae Coast and the territory is developing. Took them a while to get out of single digit average hits per day, but now safely over 20 per day. That is 600 hits per month, which is extremely well. I believe the Micros have helped. Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and Googel+ And from there I expect the new Two Centers and possible Guest Authors.

"Swallow your pride, it contains no calories."

This weekend is loaded down with places to dance, lucky the dancers have so many choices. Let's just all get up and dance - be nice to everyone.

The End

"Giving up doesn't always mean you're weak;
sometimes it means you're strong enough to let go."

It is just about ready to go, the single digit average is down to 7, it can go now very comfortably. I will wait a couple days and then it is Aloha. Mahalo to all.

The Two Center

That person willing to get their two cents into the dancing conversation. Simple? In our blogs, it is the person willing to share a little information of their own dancing circle together with a couple photos of the gang. The reader/dancers are always interested in what's doin'.

"If you do not hope, you will not find what is beyond your hopes."

The reader/dancers are our most important sector, but the Two Centers would like it and the people involved in the information and photos. Of course, it helps the blog keep going and the hits keep going up which is the name of the game. Hits are readers, and it is always, "what came first the chicken or the egg?" We must get the two cents in first.

Blogger's Law #41:
All gossip at the Palladium is true. Do not be misled by facts.

You can contribute your two cents once per month, every two or three weeks and only when you feel like it. The platform is provided by the blog and you use it when and if you wish. There shouldn't be any commitments. You may develop a commitment between you and your readers but that is strictly your deal. A good regular Two Center will eventually want to be a Guest Author and when they are ready, just say so and they are in. And you get to pick the blog of your choice. Easy as pie.

Tune into Town Dancer blog and you can see some nice blogging by Calvin and Richie. So we can't all do as good, but every bit counts, believe me.

Wahiawa Ballroom Dance Club

And for May 2nd, 2014

First News of Cinco De Mayo. This club is really rolling along just fine. Many people from Wahiawa, naturally. Also from Mililani, Waipio, Waikele and Pearl City. A club for social dancers. Blogging Hawaii the blog now firmly in second place behind Town Dancer but Oahu West staying within striking range due to Wahiawa Ballroom Dance information Contributions. Big difference when we get one more Two Center and if we get the Guest Author, second place for sure.

The Amazing Waianae Coast

Makaha Studios and Westside Stories are doing just great in bringing the Waianae Coast to the forefront on the Island of Oahu. For far too long we have remained in the background and not taken seriously by the Powers that be. We are not there yet but we are moving in the right direction.

"We should remind ourselves that it may be quite acceptable
not to be perfect."

Got a good photo of something real solid in Waianae, the Post Office.

Gives the impression of sturdiness, honesty and permanence.

The only blot on the Horizon is the new spot in the Nanakuli Ridge, that is developing a cast of unsavory characters. The police seem to know of it but I guess nothing can be done. The regular citizens try to avoid that sector and Kaiser Permanente has not said anything yet.

The hits on this blog are surprising. They have gone into the 20s average hits per day. That is 600 hits per month. I am holding my breath. Then surfing the Internet I came across this poster which looked nice.

Whatever it is, it looks like a good cause.

"Take Me Home Country Road" by Bruddah Iz

Pub's Side Note: Blogs are more personal, direct and more current communication, They leave an opening for comments in each blog and they are receptive to more formal answers and opinions in the blog itself. The hits go through the ceiling. Real Social Media is much different than anything we have come across before on the Waianae Coast. And we are waiting patiently for the Two Centers.

Steady As She Goes

The entire enchilada seems to be on solid ground. The micros are not doing so well because they have been invaded by a lot of political stuff. Mostly complaints about the Republican Attack Dogs and the Millions of dollars wasted on lies. Purely manufactured lies. It is the name of their game. Unfortunately, I agree with most of the complaints.

"Success is more a function of consistent common sense
than it is of genius."

There are an awful lot of good Republicans out there and we have been forced to paint them all by the same brush. It is taking its toll throughout the nation. The Failure of the Supreme Court when it was bought by the rich started it all. And they are running Congress as their own personal fiefdom for only one purpose, to control the country for and by the rich.

The revolution is coming. What we cannot do to get our rights by lawful means, we may be forced to use any means necessary. Hopefully we can get more Twitters, Facebook, Pinterest and Google+ to write something on the environment of dancing and music. That is what most of our reader/dancers want. Come on, send it in.

We Ballroom Dance?

By Frederick Lum, Village Park

A ballroom dance is a couple dance, not a solo dance. A belly dance is a solo dance because in the culture where it originated a man could dance or a woman could dance, but they could not both dance at the same time even at opposite ends of the same room. A ballroom dance is a couple dance, not a group dance. Group dances are also sometimes called set dances and can be folk dances. Some examples of group dances are line dances, square dances, contra dances and quadrilles and now the new Zumba;

"You can teach dance students a lesson for a day; but if you can teach them to learn by creating curiosity, they will continue the learning process as long as they live"

People who are in charge or who would like to be in charge like group dances because they can teach obedience and subservience. So they have an overwhelming amount of women in proportion. Line dancing in the ballrooms has very little of this. So the results are, we are getting more men into Line Dancing. With men teachers, the results have been more impressive.

In some couple dances the partners do not touch each other, such as rock and roll, twist, disco and flamenco. Because of its cultural heritage (Spain and Portugal had a Middle Eastern culture from approximately 700 A.D. to 1400 A.D.) flamenco has an obvious similarity to belly dancing, but a man and a woman do not do it at the same time.  It has hung over into the famous Paso Doble.

"Music, Music, Music." by Theresa Brewer

Couple dances can be with touching and the man leading the lady with movements of his hand relative to his body, or with movements of his body. The dances based on hand lead are generally categorized as Latin dances, though some are not of Latin American origin.

The word Latin I use here means Hispanic, not Italian. Examples are the various kinds of swing, disco (also called hustle), and dances of Latin origin (Rumba, Cha Cha, Samba, Mambo, Salsa,) and many, many more, which have been mostly or will be forgotten.

Most of the ballroom dances are getting less European in fact. In contrast to the Latin dances, in ballroom dancing, the man leads the lady with movements of his body.

"When I Grow Too Old To Dream" by Nat King Cole

This is true even if the couple is dancing without body contact, since the man's hands and arms should provide a frame rigidly fixed to his body that moves precisely as his body moves. Ballroom dancing seems more like the man and the lady are sharing the same experience together.

The style of dancing known as "American smooth" blurs the distinction between Ballroom and Latin, and includes both Ballroom and Latin figures within the same dance. However, no dance has a patent on moves or steps.

So do we Ballroom Dance? Yes, but what do you mean by "we?"
Fred Lum.

In the last two decades most of the best dancers were coming from the West, then was very slowly moving to the East and now stopped by the Rail Catastrophe. Happy Easter.
