Ballroom Dancing?

The Mexican Civilizations had about 2500 different dances of record. These were professionals but there could have been in existence at least five thousand throughout the earth at the arrival of the first illegals in the Western Hemisphere. So someone comes to me and tells me about a new dance. I just think, "Yeah, Man." We can see that all about us, there are new dance fads everyday. And there are plenty of teachers willing to teach, for money anyway.

"I think women are foolish to think they are equal to men.
They are superior and always have been."

The Animal Dance craze in the early part of the 20th century in the US was directly correlated with the popularity of ragtime music which was morphing into swing. There were an endless varieties of animal dance fads, such as: Horse Trot, Kangaroo Hop, Duck Waddle, Squirrel Rag, Chicken Scratch Hop, Turkey Trot, and Grizzly Bear Shag. There were no new steps invented and the young were the designated targets. Both music and dance reflected the vibrancy of modern, urban influences. The music is typified by Scott Joplin’s rags and made popular to the middle class by "Alexander's Ragtime Band,” in 1911.

"I Believe" by Frankie Laine

We still see it and we should all take note of the Disciplines. Let's face it, they know something. American Style has two divisions roughly dividing the European (Smooth) and the Latin (Rhythm.) The Smooth Division has Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz. The Rhythm Division has the Rumba, Cha Cha Cha, Swing, Bolero, Mambo.

International Style has the Standard Division with Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Viennese Waltz and Quick Step. The Latin Division has Rumba, Cha Cha Cha, Samba, Paso Doble and Jive. These people without a doubt have had something for almost a century. Good dancers? Of course.

"The World Is Waiting For The Sunrise" by Les Paul and Mary Ford.

So that "Socially" we have readily acceptable dances that we can dance in partner fashion most comfortably to enjoy the movement to music. You can see it without the use of divisions. Rumba, Cha Cha Cha, Samba, Tango, Waltz, Foxtrot and Swing. These seem to be the requirements, The rest is gingerbread, when was the last time you dropped into a Night Club for a little Paso Doble?

Slow Moving

As I approach the point of diminishing returns, the plateaus last longer. For a non famous person that is about all you can do while trying to help your fellow dancers. The Micros help but they are in the process of learning and I am making many mistakes. There are many options but nothing concrete for Social Media.

Blogger's Law #63a: "As soon as you delete a worthless file, you'll need it."

But the Great Hope is still there. The three blogs on the bottom, Dance Waianae, Latin Rhythms and Dance Blogs do not have outside links. None except what I am in process of doing with the Micros. Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Linkedin and Google+. But unfortunately I do not know enough about them yet and each one is evolving into its own unique function.

"Universal Dancing is contagious, help start an Island epidemic."

Of course, it all starts with my audience and I have to try to understand my audience which is quite varied. Without them, all the content in the world is not going to do me any good. I must ask more questions. Who are they? What do they do? What are they interested in? And the Two Centers remain our best bet. Come on, all of you. A good idea would be to check in on Richie Fun in Town Dancer blog. Getting information to the readers. And that blog is not at the top for nothing.

News

Since International style is so well entrenched in town, then the Waianae Coast is a natural to extend itself into the American Style of dance. There will be a natural spin off into Universal, Street, Cultural, Social or whatever, and the terminology is still in process. We do need standardization so that we can dance with each other. But down town is still solid.

"I  am just about on par with a horse stuck in a muddy swamp, but I dance and I enjoy myself."

They had a big competition a few years back between American and International styles of dance. The American style won. and since then the International people have not been interested in further competitions of that kind. I don't know why. But many people in the American Style of Dance have made their own conclusion.

"The ABC's Of Love" by Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers

Whatever, the West is really moving in the direction of dance and the young will always have their thing. Although most people still are not sure what is happening. Some of the get togethers in the West have been astounding. So many people dancing and having fun and having a ball. The Night Club contingent has been very clear on their kind of dancing to their music and it does make sense. This has been on the other side of the planet, so to speak, so it has been really mind blowing and it will go island wide.

Evolving Slow.

Dance Waianae still going right along in the middle teens in average hits per day.  But I am still trying to make contact and most people still think I am out to make a buck. It is pretty well the way things have evolved lately so we cannot blame them. Rotten apples, of course, but really not as bad as other places. Lucky we live Waianae Coast.

"One small crack does not mean that you are broken, it just means
you were put to the test and you did not fall apart."

Once they are convinced that this blog is out to help everyone on the Waianae Coast, we will all live a little closer to Paradise and we will share. I have things to donate, and I am looking for organizations that help their fellow citizens. I just turn over a 22" Monitor to a group from Makaha that comes to feed the homeless every Tuesday. Nice people, they help their fellow citizens, I want to help them.

Not much dancing here yet. I have heard of Zumba and Line Dancing but they keep it hidden or I just don't get around enough. With the best dance floor in the West at the Waianae District Park, there is a good chance some group will find a way for social dance in this area. The Rail Disaster will force us to think more local. we can live, work and play right where we are.

"Sh-Boom, Life Could Be A Dream" by the Crew Cuts

We are doing very well to challenge the known and embrace the unknown. Accepting the known and resisting the unknown is a mistake. You should do exactly the opposite: challenge the known and embrace the unknown. Now is the time to take this kind of risk because you have less to lose and everything to gain. Great things are going to happen to people who question the status quo.

Basic

By Jonathan Chang, Pearlridge.

"Now it is your turn to dance and our turn to laugh." Old joke, when signing off, by comedians in the old days. It was meant as a joke, but of course since not many in the night club circuits were serious about dancing and did not know how to dance, to watch them was well, funny.

"So fortunate, that my life is constantly under construction.
There is always something to improve."

However the dance craze began before the war and grew to huge ballrooms of dancers and Big Band music. And the decline began in the fifties with the introduction of rock and roll and disco solo dancing. On Oahu dancing caught up in the late fifties in spite of rock and roll and disco. Dance Clubs evolved from the original Aiea Ballroom Dance Club and there began a series of spin offs which still continue.

"Til I Waltz Again With You" by Theresa Brewer

And they all taught the prescribed movements in the American Style of dance used by the Arthur Murray School. The results are that some movements are looked upon as Waltz movement or Rumba movement but not as a dance movement on its own that can be applied to any other dance. You can move to music anyway you want and no one has a patent on any movement.

Others have gone over that. The Basic step is what usually determines what the "trendy" young go for and then perhaps by the experienced Social Dancer. Of course, nowadays, the young will accept anything just so long as it is new. With the thousands in profits the hype can make it go on twice as long as necessary.

The great appeal of any dance was in the Basic Step with the dancers constantly moving from and returning to the Basic. With a new dance partner you can dance the basic while you introduce each other or just say "hello, haven't seen you in a long time." This while feeling the music as you move.

"Walk With Me Through Paradise" by Melveen Leed

From there in all dances the lead can go forward three patterns and basic. Or backwards (watch it!) three patterns and basic. Or turn left several times and basic. Or and turn right several times and basic. And if it is "your" song, one that you really liked, then you will certainly enjoy it and your partner too. Trick moves are for OP (other people.)

And then there is the Cross Body Movement, very basic. A Rumba movement? Naw, Mambo? Naw I think it is Salsa because they dance it there. Ha! Think that one over.

Hits And Misses

It seems like we have finally got rid of the Robot hits which were messing up the stats something awful. Now the hits are much lower, but they could be legit hits and that is what counts. There will always be some search engine crawlers and spiders but surely not that many.

"You may not be able to change the people around you,
but you can certainly choose the people who you are around."

The lowest seven of our eight blogs now total more than Town Dancer which is a very good accomplishment. Town Dancer has Guest Authors and the other blogs have only me, and in blogging that is SOS. Same Old Shit. Since I am not famous, I am pretty close to the point of diminishing returns. The new Two Centers or Guest Authors will send the hits up simply because they are no longer SOS. Simple.

"Ven Devorame Otra Vez" por Azucar Moreno

You can all start with a photo. That is simple enough and that photo is your personal opinion. You picked it and that's fine. Then a few words of your choice and you have a great beginning and the reader/dancers will eat that stuff right up. Then if one of these blogs gets enough additions that are not SOS, then it can be totally possible to be the first independent blog.

I will resign, I have much to do, and the bloggers will have to make their own rules and probably run up the hits to the high heavens. The best blogs will go independent, the junk blogs will remain mine.

Two Cents

Suggestions fo da Two Centers.

You may contribute whatever message you wish to convey to our reader audience. You will get enough ideas just reading through our blogs. And you should be sure you do not repeat untruths from the Creative Researchers And Producers. It should be your opinion as a Two Center and it will be printed with your name. The same with photos, you are completely responsible for who gets in. As a rule we do not accept anonymous, however you can use an Alias and not change it.

"Do you want to know who you are? Act now. Writing will help define you."

And we shall dance in the streets.

You may send the Information in by email, and it will be copied intact and posted to the blog of your choice. Two Centers should submit at least one post per month. You can help in recruiting other Two Centers and we will continue looking for Two Centers willing to chip in. You will have no real commitments but you may have a small amount of time available for our blogs and be recognized by our readers.  Hopefully you will eventually make the decision to be an Invited Writer.

As an Invited Writer your name will be in side bar along with the others. I, by myself, am close to the "Point of Diminishing Returns" You people will get the hits for us. You may get your "Trademark" to post at the top of your posts. You can get in, write, post photos, save, publish and get out all on your own without saying boo to anyone, With enough Invited Writers the blog will have enough hits to go independent, I can resign and you are all on you own.

"I Remember You" by Don Ho

To our reader/dancers: Please consider yourselves, now and henceforth, and no matter what anyone ever asks of you, free to do any damned thing you want as long as it doesn't hurt someone else unnecessarily.

Rolling

We are picking up some good data from some good people and most are readers of this blog. We must emphasize that these people have their own opinions regardless of dance club or dance studio affiliation. We  must also accept that a large amount of our friends and neighbors are just not interested  in dance, for whatever the reason and we must respect their attitude.

"We haven't failed. We now know a thousand things that won't work, so we're that much closer to finding what will.”

Now who are these reader/dancers? The figures should resemble the normal curve, there is no way out of that. Six Categories: But we always have small, medium and large and here we cut each section in half. For now we have the approximate percentages:

"How High The Moon" by Les Paul and Mary Ford

Minor interest, little dancing - - 2%  -  Minor interest, some dancing - - 8%
There maybe different viewpoints. total 9%? or 11%  I am not going to argue. Anyway, these people just come and go as they wish.

Average interest, some dancing - - 30%
Average interest, plenty dancing  -  - 40%
These are the bulk of our recreational dancers, The older more experienced dancers are the ones that intentionally or not make the rules by their likes or dislikes. Fortunately, in the future more of it will be done through social media, such as our blogs.

Major interest, exhibition dancing - - 15%
Major interest, competitions - - 5%
Ah these are our deluxe dancers, no matter how you slice it. They become our entertainers in our dance world. They may get a trifle snooty now and then but they are just fine in the main.

"As Long As I Am Singing" by Bobby Darin

Our aim will be to get the 8% with minor interest to average interest. And the 30% average going from some dancing to plenty dancing.  Not much but it doesn't have to be much because it will affect all levels and we will have more clubs and more fun and more people. The main thing is that we will have a growing amount of people that just want to dance the easiest, most natural and fun way.

Complications

It is finally there. Too much is too much. I have eight blogs and they all seem viable. I can only just continue to build up the hits and await the Two Centers who will really define the blogs in our dance community and each blog will be different.

“Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them
is what makes life meaningful.”

Then I have the Micros just to help out promotion of the regular blogs. I definitely have too much there. At the end of the month, I will probably let Google+ and MySpace go. I have already slowed them down considerably. That will leave me with fourTwitter accounts, Facebook and Pinterest which should do for awhile.

"Once In A While" by Frank Sinatra

I am pretty sure that once we get a Two Center in every blog, I will no longer need the Micros. I plan on dropping Micros as I get Two Centers. And I will be just working on getting the top blogs independent. That should last me my final days and I can leave peacefully.

Blogging Hawaii is overdue for a Two Center and even an Invited Writer. The hits would increase remarkably and perhaps they are the ones indicated to go independent first. I just have to have at least two administrators before I resign. Then I can go on my merry way.

Update

This entire enchilada in the West looking better all time. Perfect? No, nothing ever is, but good, yes. Waipio and Waikele are separated by Kam Hwy but somehow they seem to be connected in some way. Anybody know why? Anyway that area seems to be localizing into the possible hot spot for a new dance club that will be "for the dancers."

“You will find that it is necessary to let things go; simply for
the reason that they are heavy. So let them go, let go of them.
I tie no weights to my ankles.”

And there may be a Night Spot for dancing too, which could make a lot of people happy. Whatever, it seems like everyone is trying to find ways of avoiding the trip to town. The traffic situation is going to get worse and everyone seems to agree. But the big bucks in profits on the Rail Debacle have got to be made.

"Tennessee Waltz" by Patti Page

I hope everyone has been reading Calvin's blogging in the Town Dancer blog. Wow! Hits going through the ceiling. Good reviews from all over. Be sure to tune in to Frank's blogs for different view points and which are of utmost interest to all of our reader/dancers. Plenty of good photos and it looks like our people are having fun in our particular recreational dance environment.

Blogger's Law #28G:
Complex problems have simple, easy-to-understand wrong answers.

I must give all the groups a chance and try to help them all in their public relations. Of course their kokua is of utmost importance and I can only help those that need the help. The others can wait for later when they know more and feel better.

Bananas and Blood Pressure
This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it the perfect way to beat high blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration had just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of high blood pressure and bananas will be selling better.

Anonymous?

By Anonymous: not usual for this blog (I make the exception because it applies to so many.)

With everything going on in this world. All the people with hate in their hearts, and minds, and still the focal point is the lies about me. You've made a mistake by messing with someone, who doesn't give a crap what you say.

Here's my message, hear me out. I'm only saying this once. I don't give a shit about your insecurities. Your attempts to get my attention doesn't bother me, but when you crossed that line and dragged my name through the dirt, believe me, you will eventually feel all my hurt. I work hard for the things that are in my hands.

"Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective,
not the truth."

You seem to think that the scene you've created will somehow, some way cause me so much pain. I don't think you understand all your lies and shenanigans won't make me give a damn. It's all just a freaking scam and in the process, you messed up a lot of other people that believe the lies. So I'll keep on living, keep on giving and keep on helping. We got one life to live, I'm not going to be stopped with a lot of your manufactured shit!

From  Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, Cassius speaking:
"The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars,  But in ourselves, that we are underlings."

Moving Slowly

The three bottom blogs, Dance Waianae, Latin Rhythms and Dance Blogs are finally getting some recognition. The three are only in the links of our blogosphere and now being promoted with Micros. It will take another month to see some results but it is looking good.

"Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement.
Nothing can be done without hope and confidence."

Meanwhile, the definite point for advancement remains the Two Center. When most all can see the difference in hits with just one Two Center, we will be on our way. Many on the mainland are showing interest. If they wish to lead the way, it is all right with me.

The prognosis for a new dance club in the West is looking better all the time. But it must be for all the dancers not just their little clique. The Creative Researchers And Producers are obsolete in this century. We have many good Newsletters, Web and Blog sites and the dancers realize they are getting something closer to the truth.

"Mi Buenos Aires Querido" por Carlos Gardel

The closely held "corporation," which had been the dance community in the last century in Hawaii, has been able to slowly do their own thinking. And the early years of this century have made remarkable inroads into the ballroom dance community. Gonna git bettah? You'd bettah believe it!

Plateau

All the blogs are at a definite plateau and it has never been this long. The readers seem to be adjusting either way. This is mostly myself only so I know I am getting close to the point of diminishing returns. I have redesigned the information in Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Pinterest and Google+. and I know I don't need that much.

"Life is the dancer, you are the dance."

So far it looks like Google+ and MySpace will be on the way out. Just too many options and they are thrown in your face daily. I cannot even get my simple stuff in there. One regular Two Center and/or an Invited Writer and Google+ and MySpace will be the first to go. I work too hard and have to start scaling back.

"Eh Ku'u Morning Dew" by Melveen Leed

Resources, inspiration, and education for those interested in learning about blogging, just for the sport, will be all around us. Perhaps it will become a supportive community that promotes the free sharing of information, advice, and encouragement based on honest dancer/citizen opinions and grow throughout all the islands on its own.

"Strangers In The Night" by Frank Sinatra

Just make the effort to make sure your content is written for reader/dancers. However you can write whatever and whenever you please. It will be your blog, within a blog and your name will be attached to it. It can make for very diversified dance information for all of Hawaii dancers.

Our bloggers do not have to be affiliated officially with any social club or dance studio. There’s no specific word count for posts, but somewhere between 500 and 1000 is easily accepted by our reader/dancers.

Photo posting can be learned and I can coach from afar. Each blog will develop their own gimmicks, slide shows, videos, Teacher of the Month, Dancer of the Month etc. The members of the blogs will make the decisions.

So Rome was not built in a day.

Details, Details

I had a lot more Links before, but then the other parties decided that these blogs were not necessary to them and dropped the links so I dropped them. Easy, I don't want to disturb anyone. However, for all the others, the links have proven a very good help in each others PR and I welcome any that would like to exchange links.

"Don't take life too seriously. You never gonna get out alive."

The Neighbor Islands are specially welcomed because we need more inter island exchange of dance and music information in all our blogs and of course the photos too. We do not need the millions of photos that go to Facebook everyday. This is just an open invitation to any other "dancing" web/blog sites.

"If This Was Your Last Song" by Loyal Garner

Of course most of you are aware that one of my top priorities is the prospect of making one of "our" blogs (Town Dancer first) into an independent blog with its own Administrators and Guest Authors before the year end. And to be fully independent requires a couple more Invited Writers and my resignation. And eventually all of the blogs should be independent with interlocking Guest Authors limited to maybe two blogs.

Then I can rest easy knowing that there will be a strong diversity of opinion in our dance environment that will be publicized frequently out in the open and the vicious lying cliques will recede into the background to a very minimal influence. We will have everything, "up front." Total total number of reader/dancers will probably double.

"Vaya Con Dios" by Les Paul and Mary Ford

With the already negative effect by the Rail Catastrophe on the entire section, Central Valley is looking good, even the prospects of a nice beautiful Industrial Park in Wahiawa. Waikelea and Waipio shows more interest so I can see a dance club in one of those places. I will be at their service to help as always.

"I am not all that sure where I am going, but I hope I am not alone."
