Farrington Highway

The biggest muddle on the coast at present is the blot of Farrington Highway caused by the Present Rail Party. Our reps are powerless against them. They got all money and they want more. The Fat Cats in Honolulu call it "Easy Money." And prices are going up all over the place. Oahu is now the highest priced island in the Pacific and people are moving to the Neighbor Islands.

"It is strange, but true, but then truth is always strange:
Much stranger than fiction."

Kapolei is still having a tough time getting to be Second City with the Present Rail Party stopping all construction of Business Parks in the West. Thousands of cars would have been missing from the freeways to and from Honolulu. Thousands of cars missing from downtown traffic congestions. And I coulda been home in 20 minutes. And what about the Minimum Wage? Worth ten times more in Waianae, than in Honolulu, with 14 hour workdays. Auwe!

Look what they did to Lualualei. They had the money to spend thousands to stop the Business Park that would have helped so many in the area. The Rail Catastrophe is less than 10% built and the cost over runs are already a billion dollars. Easy Money. Souki now the leading man for them. Millions and millions of dollars in pure profits from the "Gravy Train."

"What A Wonderful World" by Bruddah Iz

Fortunately we are getting better schools and some Shopping Center construction but they are having a hell of time with the "Keep the country, country" people. Those people intend to keep you down and rely on Honolulu for everything. Waianae Coast is overdue for Third City. And we gotta find more ways to keep away from Da Rail Mess.

Stumbling Along

Still holding on, many Search Engine hits and robot scam spam hits. It may have to be deleted, the Present Rail Party has done it again. However, some on the city council already realize that the section south of Farrington is the future slum area of Oahu. They want to build low cost housing there. Stands to reason.

"We were all born to make mistakes,
not to parade around in fake perfection."

But all the good territory will be north of the Moanalua Road and the entire area may eventually revive. Meanwhile, Salt Lake and Kalihi are doing well out of the Rail Catastrophe area. Dream To Dance Studio in Palama is going to get to the top. So we can count on a  new Dance Club in the Salt Lake-Kalihi area. And we have plenty  good dancers in that area wanting to avoid downtown Honolulu traffic and the Rail Crisis will make it tough to get to Kapolei.

Remember when the Tea Party was such an honored term? Now, the Republican Attack Dogs have dragged it into the gutter and the garbage dump and stamped "Liar" on it. What about the good honest Republicans in Hawaii? Painted with the same brush. Auwe. Then too, sometimes the Hawaii Free Press looks more like the Republican Attack Dogs.Tough, but the money is great, I know.

"We are all learning to be kinder to each other but sometimes the worst of us gets in there. All we can do is try to be better."

So What Snew?

“Reasonable people adapt themselves to the world: Unreasonable people persist
in trying to adapt the world to themselves. Therefore, all progress
depends on the unreasonable people. Anybody don't dig that?”

Yes, I just saw it in a Night Club. A couple of good dancers, (not the best) but good enough to enjoy a good dance on a night club dance floor. It was a Rumba and the man was using the Rock Step and Slow step, and since the band was on the one beat, he would break on the one. Not bad, nice and easy.

"You're Nothing But A Hound Dog" By Elvis Presley

Then something happened, he changed the rock step, stepping forward on his left foot. he then rocked to his right on his right foot and brought up his left foot to right.  Then he stepped back on his right foot, left foot to the left and and then brought his right foot up to his left. Hey, that is a Fred Astaire Rumba Basic Box Step, done in the quick, quick, slow. And the lady followed him just easy as pie. But then we are lucky that we have some of the best lady followers on the planet right here on Oahu.

"Change is not necessarily good or bad. It's just the way of things.
Nothing stays the same."

In Central America, many who have good rhythm for playing drum beats, can do tricks with their hands to music and all the while keeping up a nice varied beat. Real drums are hard to come by but card board boxes are somewhat easier and easily discarded too. Sort of like rap without words but you can sure get a good drum sound from a card board box.

Not to be denied a place in the sun, the neighbor islands are just beginning to make contact with us. The control seems to be in their Web people and they want it all for themselves. We know they have the dancers, and music is essential, they just could communicate to the rest of Neighbor Islands and we could all be friends.

It is so nice that we are gradually getting more information from outside Oahu, for the good of everyone and we are interested mainly in the reader/dancers. Can we share dancing news with each other?

So Many

There are so many spots in Honolulu to cover, it is a wonder that more of our friends will not share the information with our fellow dancers.  Even just using the comments section of any blog. Just to let the readers know that this is Social Media, not common advertising. Patience, it will take a while.

"Patience is not just the ability to wait, but the ability
to keep a good attitude while we wait"

Before the rise of discothèques and DJ-based dancefloors with recorded music, live bands on Oahu were the ordinary means of serving the dancers.. Along with that, slow-dancing was the primary method of dancing at the time. However; the rise of Rock and Roll music initially made it hard for people to dance in the small dance floors of yesteryear.

"In The Mood" by Glenn Miller

Dancers did adapted to it and started dancing at higher speeds and almost coinciding with the rise of DJ-based dance floors. In many places on Oahu, live bands were slowly displaced by DJ-based dance floors as the DJ stands took up less space than bandstands and they have been playing recorded music which has been very good music and very up to date.

Enter the "ballroom dancer" and those people need more room to dance in. Their only fault is that they are not drunks. But they know their music and on Oahu in this century, the live bands are discovering the magic of playing the oldies but goodies. Less than one out of a hundred becomes a classic. Fortunately, we have thousands of classics available and the live bands seem to know this best.

Pub;s Side Note: I am on a walker and limited in getting around but I still plan on going to a function at least once per week. I need to get out and the exercise does me good. However, I fumble with my hands so I pass the camera around to a couple, three people to take a few photos. Sometimes I can get a sentence or two in writing from somebody and that helps. Of course, with my own personal views we get a nice blog to share with our fellow dancers.

Holding On

Kokohead Dancing is out and been converted to a weekly blog entitled (what else?) The Dance Blogs. We will attempt to define the dance blogs in Hawaii. They are pretty much the same and could be a little more unique. With one writer that is the hazard of the trade. We need Comments, Two Centers and Guest Authors to make our blogs, really Social Media.

"The truth may not be for all people, it may be
only for those that seek it."

We have a couple studios and some Salsa classes in this territory but they have Web sites and do not consider Blog sites a necessary addition. So we must wait for a new Dance Club or Dance Studio to develop and we can help get them going.

"Maui Waltz" by Loyal Garner

The Rail Disaster, of course, has devastated anything in its path. It's the bread, Fred. And  they are making millions and millions of dollars in profits. What is the minimum wage on the rail? About even with doctors and lawyers now. The Fat Cats in Honolulu call this "Easy Money." And who is going to pay for all this? Lucky you.

So we are concentrating on anything north of the Moanalua Road. Far enough away from the horrible noise of the steel wheels on steel rails. It is gonna drive people nuts. The predictions in California now say it will cost ten billion dollars with projected overruns. All this covered up by the Present Rail Party.

It's Morning In Waianae

The citizens of this community are waking up pretty nicely. They are recognizing the Fat Cats and the Present Rail Party in Honolulu and what they stand for. It's the bread, Fred. Some of the Fat Cats still talk of "Keep the country, country." Ha! The thing is now we know it means, "less money for schools, no sidewalks, no shoe stores and no places to find work. You gotta go downtown." And they are making millions and millions of dollars. Easy Money.

"Truth is like the Sun. You can shut it out for a time,
but it ain't goin' away."

There are several classifications for people contributing this very important information to distribute to our reader/dancers. This information is crucial for our type of social blogging, and with more contributors, we can hope to eventually make it into Real Social Media. Facebook? They have 50 million members, and you think we are important to them? Ha! Our blogs are where we are important to our friends, neighbors, relatives and fellow dancers. That certainly gives the entire Hawaii Blogosphere a very solid base from which to speak from.

Someday, we can hope to have something almost as good in the Waianae Coast. And the Waianae District Park has got to have the best dance floor on the coast. All this in spite of the fact that some are already moving out because of the Rail Holocaust. They would like to stay if they could work nearby and avoid 14 hour workdays. But we know the Present Rail Party. It's the money, Sonny.

You Gotta Have Swing

By Bert Anderson: San Francisco

Cream in your coffee, butter on your bun, how about some more gravy on your prime rib? Hey, and don't forget to pile on some strawberries on that shortcake. Umm-umm, life is good!

Just as these are tasty examples of matches made in heaven, so also. are break-endings in West Coast Swing. It is difficult to imagine a dancer without a cupboard full of break endings (unless a beginner.) It is this that adds spice and zest to a dancer's repertoire.

"Sing, Sing, Sing" by Benny Goodman

There are many good dancers, both male and female, who rely on only a few basic patterns; steps as elementary as a closed position - simple throw out to open, sugar push, side pass and the whip. So what makes these dancers, so much fun to partner up with? What makes them appear to do so much with so few pattern's? The answer is simple ... break endings.

Think about it. A dancer may have five, ten or 20 patterns in their bag of tricks but if each one finishes with the same old one-two-three break-ending -- boorring. As you watch the better dancers you'll notice they play with their break-endings. You wonder if they're ever going to move on to another pattern. Hey, they are having fun!

 "Opus One" by Tommy Dorsey

Break-endings can be inserted at any time by either partner. They don't have to be done together and most aren't. The lady may use a single, double or triple ending while her partner marks time. The man may finish a whip or other pattern witha a multiple break-ending. The couple may elect to fancy break-ending together. Many fine dancers will tease their partner with tricky break-ends to measure their response, but it's all in the spirit of fun.

When you realize your dancing lacks the spontaneity of multiple break-endings, it's time to start learning and using them. You'll discover your dancing taking on a new dimension. The effective use of multiple break-endings will make you a more desirable dance partner. You'll find you are developing a style of your own as you transition from a plodding one-two-three break-ending to a smooth and well executed  multiple finish.

But best of all, boys and girls, you'll find you're enjoying your dancing much more. Remember ... Who's the best dancer on the floor? The one having the most fun.

Amazing

That this blog is still holding up as good as it is. With the Rail Disaster screwing things up, the reader/dancers are worried about other things. A few comments in the blog would help in the feedback.

"Health is the greatest gift, contentment the greatest wealth,
faithfulness the best relationship."

Of course, I am spreading the word on Word Press, Twitter, Pinterest, Linkedin and Google Plus. I also realize that I am clearly over extended and I am starting to prune every thing I have.

I have just deleted one blog and the total hits on all the blogs are still going up, though slowly. I am now working on Kokohead Dancing blog and it may take a couple months to clean it up and delete it. There could also be a chance of a regular Two Center or Guest Author and that would keep it in for sure.

"I Remember You' by Don Ho

One thing for sure, after 20 years of blogging, I am beginning to see quite clearly, what they do and what they are capable of doing. If I want to contact Oahu dancers, Facebook is not the answer.

They will get 350 million photos today, that is not counting the 350 million they goi yesterday or the 350 million they are going to get tomorrow. They missed the photo you sent in?  Tough.

"The Last Waltz": by Englebert Humpercinck

However, in social media on Oahu, a photo in a well read blog is going to be seen by your friends, neighbors, relatives and many of your fellow dancers. Big, Big difference? Yes, for the better. And whatever you say may be missed in Finland, but very much appreciated at home.

Slowing Down

This blog is still in single digit average per day hits. About 8 average hits per day. It may mean that is was not meant to be. The reader/dancers in the area have pretty much decided already, - the silence has been deafening. We may know by the end of the month.

"It is possible to be the change that we would like to see in our dance world."

For now, the two most indicated for independence are Town Dancer and Platinum Horseshoe. The Information Contributors will definitely decide ;which one will be it. With one hundred average hits per day, I can resign and they are on their own. I have plenty to do with the other blogs. Fortunately we have plenty out there that can do it, they just don't want the commitment that they think is required.

So come and join us in making comments (at end of every blog.) Or in becoming a Two Center or Guest Author in any blog of your choosing. With a few good people you can run any blog way out ahead of any blog out there. And the counters are what tell you what you may need to know.

"Maui Waltz" by Loyal Garner

Of course, they tell everyone else too. But there are too many that think they have arrived because they have their own blog site or web site. It does nothing for you if you don't have hits. This is of growing importance to our reader/dancers and to us the bloggers.  Meanwhile, I will play this blog like the rest of them. Patience, the reader/dancers will make the decision.

"Beautiful Kauai by Don Ho

The Outskirts of this island is definitely getting more dance interest and there is Salsa on the North Shore. There will be a dance club somewhere on the Waianae Coast but not anything definite yet. And of course, Kapolei still fighting to be second city and the Present Rail Party screwing them all up. The section between Kalealoa Harbor and Kalealoa Airport the da place for entertainment action.

Pub's Side Note: Have you noticed? There seems to be a lot more good Rumba music around. Sounds good - Wot happened?

What's Up, Doc?

I don't really understand what is going on with these blogs. Now that I deleted one blog, the rest seem to be going up and Town Dancer is in the lead by a lot again. Platinum Horseshoe, Moanalua Corridor and Sea Country are in the second tier. However I expect them to stabilize until we get a Guest Author. That will make a big difference in the hits. So many good honest opinions out there to benefit the reader/dancers.

"We can all be the change we wish to see in this world."

"Shave Ice" by Loyal Garner

Meanwhile, dancing is all over the place and many groups are becoming prominent by their presence in Dance Fever Oahu and in Frank Sierra's blogs. They make for good reading and have much information not available to our blogs. So for us it is in the Comments, the Two Centers and the Guest Authors, all representing "feedback," from the reader/dancers.

"Ain't No Big Thing!" by Don Ho

If we focus on this finite group of decision-makers, we actually put ourselves in the best possible position to succeed. Why? Because then we can ask these three most important questions, - What goals are our people trying to achieve? - What opportunities interest them? - What challenges frustrate them? We could have it made in the shade.

"Walk With Me Through Paradise" by Melveen Leed

Since I must get out even if I cannot dance I am now making plans for going at least once per week to some dance function. Take a camera and since I fumble with my hands, someone else must take the pictures. Fortunately, it is point and shoot camera and all they have to do is know where to push the button. I can usually get two or three good photographers and get enough pics. If I get a few lines from someone, it is gingerbread and I can make a nice blog.

Waianae Coast looking good

People on the Waianae Coast are known for helping each other. Lately we have been getting groups from Makaha into Nanakuli to help the homeless. They don't seem to have enough publicity. For the longest time I have not given anything to a beggar in the streets who asked me. Specially when I lived in town and found out how much money they can make in an hour of begging in downtown Honolulu. It is much different on the Waianae Coast. People don't make a living asking for money, but it does help

"Don't sweat the small stuff, and remember, most of the stuff is small."

In Waianae, if a person is desperate enough to ask me, "Can you help me?" how can I ever say no? That person is asking me for help." Plus, hopefully for a few moments they'll feel a little less alone. Hopefully they'll feel like a few people really do care about them. I don't have money to donate to big organization. But I give directly, I give to a person who asks. I give a dollar here, or a dollar there.

And because of the money needed for the Rail Catastrophe, Farrington Highway cannot be fixed. What used to take a half day to make deliveries take a whole day now and everyone knows it is going to get worse. The price of eggs, bread and milk are all going up. Gotta pay for the Rail Mess. When they remove all the buses to replace with feeder buses, forcing many people to use the "Rapid Transit," it will get worse unless we take the boat.

"Mambo #5" by Latin Lou and the Mambo All Stars

That Business Park in Makaha still looks good in spite of the Present Rail Party. Hundreds of cars missing to and from Honolulu, and hundreds of cars missing downtown traffic. And "I coulda been home in 20 minutes." Minimum Wage? Worth ten times more in Makaha than making it in Honolulu.
