Our Dance Jargon

From the back of the booklet.

In ballroom dancing today, a large amount of fans talk to each other in dose and disa way. Not many have adequate knowledge of the jargon of dancing. However, to communicate to each other, it is almost as important as the mastery of the basic skills.

Dancing Jargon varies from one part of the world to another. In Hawaii, these definitions were gathered from sources in dance books, magazines, newspapers and newsletters from the Mainland. All of which are available in Hawaii to anyone. Also terms suggested by Mainland and Local cognoscenti.

Only a miminal coloring of Hawaiian flavor has been permitted and most step patterns have been omitted. Happy Dancing.

What we intend to do now, in 2013, is establish the Jargon of Hawaii's Dancing World, carefully excluding those that have made it plain that the do not wish to be included. It will be tried in every Monday blog of Dancing in the Dark, alphabetically taking one or two letters at a time. Feedback will be gratefully accepted. And hopefully everyone will be happy.
