Fusion Exchange

Fushion Exchange also known as FX. We wrote them up a couple years back and we just came across them again now. They held their FX2014 at The Curtis Hotel in Denver, Colorado from January 10 – 12, 2014.

"The world needs only one of you. So make sure you're just that .... YOU!"

The Fusion Exchange is the premier event for fusion dancing. Founded in 2008, it is professionally run by a team of highly-skilled volunteer organizers. It was the first event of its kind and has continued to grow, lead, and innovate in the fusion genre. It has sparked an entire dance movement leading to local, weekly, and monthly dances, and regional and national events.

The 2013 Las Vegas Fusion Exchange was a huge success– with over 700 dancers from all over the US (and abroad), they danced for three straight days at the beautiful Alexis Park Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. This year’s event venue was held at The Curtis hotel in Downtown Denver on January 10-12, 2014.

The Fusion Exchange offers daytime classes taught by some of the best instructors in the nation, and evening dances to a variety of music. By embracing many different dance styles, techniques, and inspirations, the Fusion Exchange helps dancers build a limitless dance toolkit to take social dancing to a new level. They teach Dancing “outside the box,” whatever that means, I am not up to date on this stuff.

Developing dance skills to make it possible to partner dance to any type of music, perhaps a dozen or so different kinds. And that is their only defect for our type of dance. We limit ourselves to a half a dozen or so dances. We are not advanced, deluxe dancers. We only move to the music of our choice. And we enjoy it year after year. Theirs is fine for them, but may we like ours?

Our own excellent American Style dance instructors are no dummies, they know dancing and some of our instructors have been applying these new principles for years. They had few disciplinary taboos and could go with their own gut opinions.

We are finding the similarities, while appreciating and celebrating the differences. We are recognizing dance styles, artistic expression, and the people themselves – to develop an inclusive approach. Promoting dance as an equal partnership and encouraging both leads and follows to actively contribute to the dance and inspire each other.

The Fusion Exchange is held in a different city every year, which is selected through a combination of attendee voting and organizer vetting. The event is embraced by the fusion dance community. It earns rave reviews and sells out quickly every year, usually in mere hours or minutes. Perhaps it will come to Hawaii next year.
