Reaching Out

All the blogs were pretty well stalled while I was having my troubles, computer breakdown and hospital time. But they stopped losing ground and right now they are holding their own. All the blogs need Feedback which is the process in which the writing or the fotos of an action is 'returned' (fed-back) to modify the next action. I print green in error. Some one sends the feedback, no, it was blue. Feedback is essential to the working and survival of all our dance blogs here on Oahu. News that we don't have, the party in Waipio, the big shindig in Nanakuli.

"Social dancers know that a day spent without appreciating the beauty
of music and dance is a waste of time."

With dance groups, feedback is the suggestions received by our blogs about its prior blogging so that the blog may adjust its current and future behavior to achieve the desired result. The blogs usually react to an action or behavior that was emailed. For example, 'customer feedback' is the buyers' reaction to a firm's products and policies, and 'operational feedback' is the internally generated information on a firm's performance. We cannot promise to do what one person tells us to do. But we can certainly hear what many of you say and then we must move accordingly.

Photo Contributors also lend color to the feedback in our blogs. Getting in alongside the news received, they should have a place to share their favorite fotos in a blog read by their fellow dancers. Ton's of photos we do not need, Facebook gets 50 million fotos daily. Three or four of your favorite photos of a few of your dancing friends. That's it, those are the ones we need and most appreciated by the readers. I am now making collages of six instead of nine to have bigger pictures but we are going to have them more often. And they can be seen by anyone that has a computer. No club membership is necessary and we are going to have the best bloggers in Hawaii.

"Social dancers know that defining our dreams may be difficult, but the
journey to reach them is rewarding. It depicts who we are."

Upsydating

In his study of American politics, historian Alexis de Tocqueville praised the openness of our democratic system, but warned that "There will come a time when the rich and powerful try to kick the door closed." We are all aware of the disaster now happening in Washington D.C. The Rich and Powerful are taking over for the sole purpose of getting more money and getting more powerful. If we can still vote, we can get rid of all those lying republican crooks out of our congress. Then we can go after the number one Shit Pot.

“Social dancers that dance less in motion and more in spirit -
awaken the dreamer within.”

The dance scene of Oahu is developing very nicely. There is less stink about, that type of dancing or this type of dancing. We are getting along just fine, each dancer has a right to their preferences as we would like to have the right to ours. Country dancing is beautiful and they have fun, the name of the game. Exhibition and Competition dancers get together, dance beautifully and have fun. Nothing wrong with that. However, we as social dancers get together and should have the right to have fun too. Fortunately, there are now more social dancers than all the others combined, about 60% of the dancers on Oahu.

A couple years ago someone mentioned the "two-center." I am getting old so I brushed it off and promptly forgot about it.  Then a couple months later someone from the Windward side mentioned the "two-center" and this time it stayed with me a little while longer. Now I just heard it again recently and it sounds better now. What is a "two-center?" Simply put, it is a person who is willing to stick their two cents in and contribute dance news to a blog such as ours. Very valuable.

"In many things, it may not be well enough to say, "Know thyself";
it may be better to say, "Know others."

West Oahu looking better

With everything that has happened to us dancers on the island of Oahu, we can either feel sorry for ourselves or treat what has happened as a gift.  We learned something and everything was either an opportunity to grow or an obstacle to keep us from growing. Most of the time we get the chance to choose. We know the good dance places that are in process of developing in West Oahu. And we know that something is overdue on the Waianae Coast and on the North Shore. Business Parks are a big solution for the residents and Downtown is against them.

“Social dancers quickly learn that life doesn't always go the way they want it to,
and that's okay, they will still keep on dancing.”

Line dancing as a separate peripheral comes and goes and it is much more accepted in the social dance clubs in West Oahu as a intermission fun time. Men dancers are still sorely lacking but the ratios are getting better in the West. The biggest drawback is that they are getting much too fancy. A few basic moves to "enjoy the music" is all that is necessary. Fancy steps, we know what they are in any dancing. They become Exhibition and/or Competition. Nothing wrong with that if that is what you like but it can and should be recognized for what it is.

Meanwhile we must go on with much of what we are doing right, because so many new people keep showing up all the time. Social dancing is definitely in. There is no disrespect to the disciplines if a disk jockey plays a Salsa or a Bachata. Neither are a part of American or International syllabi. But they try to please the dancers and that is the name of the game. A few days ago, the disk jockey completely forgot to play a Viennese Waltz and nobody noticed. Anyway most of us will admit we are social dancers.

"Social Dancers know that it isn't hard to find injustice in our dance circles,
but we must not let injustice smear the good deeds that do occur everyday."

Rolling Again

Dictionary definition of a dancer: "a person who dances." But that is not good enough for us, because in our dance environment we have many who are dancers but not the same as others who are dancers. Those differences are what we are in the process of defining. Fortunately, many have already defined themselves. That certain helps but there are still many misunderstood definitions.

"To our reader/dancers, please consider yourselves, now and henceforth, and no
matter what anyone ever asks of you, free to do any damned thing you
want as long as it doesn't hurt someone else unnecessarily."

It helps to have information contributors. This invitation from Maile of WBDC.

Aloha Dancers!
You are invited to WBDC's Stars and Stripes Forever Dance, to be held on Friday, July 13, 2018, Wahiawa Recreation Center, Hale Hookipa Room, starts at 7:30 pm - 9:50 pm, Potluck or a small monetary donation appreciated! Attire: (Optional) DRESS WITH RED, WHITE, AND BLUE!  STARS AND STRIPES ARE GREAT TOO!

"The Star Spangled Banner" even if you don't know all the words.

Town Dancer is racking up the hits and is back at the top of all dance blogs. Most dance Web sites have deleted their hit counters. They have their reasons and we should respect them. I have one outsider with a counter included in my stats because they are in second place in my Blog Sphere. Platinum Horseshoe is in third place. I use them as a guide of where we are going. Most prove that there are a whole slew of dancers on this island in protest of "one Style." Additional is that a blog by one person (not famous) is not enough. We need Guest Bloggers.

"As social dancers get older they learn that as they understand life less and less,
they learn to love it more and more."

Slow Going

I finally got my main computer and my back up computer, running and they just both need the detail to get both up to date. It has been taking the blogs a while to get back on track. And Platinum Horseshoe lost a lot of readers when we lost Aiea and Wahiawa.. And I am beginning to miss my Search Engine Hits. For now I am deleting the comments sections in all the blogs. I don't get the people that I want and I get many anonymous that are looking for a money connection. So the best way to get something in is to just email it and I will post it to the blog of your choice.

“Social dancers believe that the impact of music is so great that
you'll leave whatever you are doing just to move to it.”

Many people writing something don’t really enjoy the editing process because by and large it’s the least creative part of writing a blog. Still it’s the most necessary. Yes, I know, I am one of the sloppy ones but I am learning. For example the spell checker that comes with this blogger will not alert me to the fact that words like there and their may be mixed up and often they're wrongly put. so it’s up to me to understand the difference and the correct usage for each word. That doesn’t mean I shouldn’t use automated spellcheckers. What it does mean is that I should understand the limitations of each so that when I am using them, I will know what might have slipped through the cracks.

January 20, 1990 Michael Bolton "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You"

In the end there’s really no substitution for reading my blog out loud and keeping my eyes focused for any spelling and grammar mistakes. Concentrate, for at my age, it’s easy to let my mind wander away and that’s why I find reading the text out loud to myself is the best method to catch mistakes. When I am finished with a careful self edit, I am pleased with the way the blog sounds afterwards. And even then I will see typos in all kinds of publications. On Oahu I cannot visit everyone so I must wait to be invited. I cannot eat or dance but I can blog'em and that is my hobby.

Friends can be like underpants - some crawl up your ass - some snap under pressure -
some don't have the strength to hold you up -  some get a little twisted - some are
your  favorites - some support you -  some are cheap and get bent out of shape -
some actually do cover your ass when you need them to.
