Street Dancer

As most of us suspect, dance is an art form that helps us to express our feelings. Before the invention of language, we used to share our stories by dance. Dance has many forms and now, the world famous style is the modern street dance and anyone can easily pick this up. The street dance that has many forms listed like for example, hip-hop, popping, b-boying, krumping, locking,  robot dance, animation, turfing, waving, stobbing, tutting, breaking, footwork, liquiding, and others. And most are mainly for the young.

“Dance is the only art of which we ourselves are the stuff of which it is made.”

But that is not our street dance on Oahu. Our street dancing is a dance style that resembles ballroom dancing (from the movies) and evolved outside dance studios in any available open space such as streets, parks, dance parties, block parties, school yards and nightclubs. It is hard to describe how exactly street dance in Hawaii has evolved. Basically, street dance was invented by local dancers with hints of what done in the movies in the 20th century. Today’s younger generation is inclining to modern street dance style culture as there are not any rules and everyone wants to make the different style from others and the street dance culture gives freedom of freestyles.
