Try new

Our blogosphere diversity is so great that our dancing blogs have never been adequately described by anyone. It is still in slow development on these Islands. And not many have even hinted of a dance blog as Social Media. Most are simply not aware of social media as a factor on these Islands. And social media involves more people.

“One of the tragedies of life is the murder of a beautiful story,
by a brutal gang of facts.”

We are in the process of doing so now. Who? Not me by myself, it is all the people involved in the distribution of information for our reader/dancers such as Newsletters, Web Sites and ordinary advertising. All of these are "to whom it may concern" information that has been quite common for the last half century. Social Media is evolving into something else and our people are picking up on this action.

So it was bad news on the mainland in the elections. But I insist that the Republican Attack Dogs did not steal the election, they had millions of dollars available and they paid cash for every vote. Some people cost thousands of dollars, some were bought - dime a dozen.

They had purchased the Supreme Court some time ago, now they have bought the Senate. Next, the Presidency and those of us who are acquainted with history should understand that we are closer to the inevitable.

The story has been there from the beginning of time. Those who make peaceful reform impossible make violent revolution inevitable. Remember Marie Antoinette? "Let them eat cake." They were ignorant and the Rich will never have a clue, as always - until it is too late.

Maui NIght Life

Checking around and they got some very good writers on the Valley Island. They say the fun doesn’t stop when the sun sets on Maui. You can dine under the stars in Wailea. Dance the night away in the bars and restaurants of Lahaina and Kihei or just listen to live music fronting Kaanapali Beach at Whalers Village.

"Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough."

"Maui Waltz" by Loyal Garner

Lose yourself by moonlight on romantic Maui. From traditional and contemporary Hawaiian music to touring musicians and shows, Maui has a variety of live music spots to discover. Dine and Dance. And the people from Oahu going over there, don't always know of the places they should not miss.

"The World Is Waiting For The Sunrise" by Les Paul and Mary Ford

Well into November, the resulting averages are pretty hard to move. It is amazing that the top four blogs are still pretty well established though several points apart from each other. I have tried to treat them all equally in several levers of control.

"Save The Last Dance For Me" by Englebert Humperdinck

I really believed that one of them would surge far ahead of the rest by itself. And it still clearly Town Dancer leading even with all those advertising hits from Google. And I must do everything I can to let each blog decide for itself as much as possible. The Two Centers remain the most crucial at this moment.

Plodding Along

We are making some contact with the neighbor islands but it still seems as though they don't realize that this a Blog and not a Web Site looking for income. One thing is coming out slowly, they have few dance floors on the Neighbor Islands and are becoming aware like us, they need a place to dance.

"You are not really the same person you were yesterday.
You are always growing, experience does not stop."

Apparently Hilo side is better prepared for dancing but we don't hear much about them over here. We will soon. But I am sure that Kailua-Kona will be moving in the right direction shortly. The Aloha Ball may have shifted dancing madness over to this side of the Island. And one of these days we will find people from the Big Island reading about their dance places in our blogs on Oahu. We should all be friends.

"Gimme Some Lovin'" by The Spencer Davis Group

Swing Maui is doing good with a Web Site, flyer kine emails, notices to the general public.  "to whom it may concern." Sometimes we get some where they seem to be speaking to our readers, but those are usually difficult to get at in the middle of all the rest of the general goop. One good thing, they don't seem to be contaminated yet with the "publish personal emails" virus as one other on Maui did five years back. So we still have hopes for them.

On Kauai,we have had contact with two or three dance organizations. They seem to  want to keep for themselves, which should be their privilege. We sort of lost contact with all of them and then also one of  them  got the "publish personal emails" virus, last year, so at least that one is out.

In fact we got one with the "publish personal emails" virus on Oahu recently. No need to ask "Where, When, Show me?" Naturally no one says a word. You are guilty and there is no way to prove your innocence. Those are their rules, tough.

"Be My Love" by Mario Lanza

Meanwhile we can hope to eventually make contact with all the Neighbor Islands and trade items of interest for our reader/dancers. Dance floors needed there too. But we all move ahead helping each other where we can.

Makaha

Mākaha is a census-designated place in Honolulu County, Hawaiʻi with a population of almost 9000 people. The racial makeup of Makaha is about 22% Pacific Islanders, 18% White, 15% Asian, or about 55% of the total population. Most of the White are in relatively much higher income levels than the Pacific Islanders.

There also are Hispanic at about 13% and 27% from two or more races which total now reach 95% of the entire Makaha area. The remaining 5% were African American, Native American and other races,

"It may not be what you do that matters it may be what you don't do
that really matters at the end of the day."

The median income for a household was $36,000, Males had a median income of $34,000 versus $24,000 for females. About 23% of the population were below the poverty line. You can see where Honolulu couldn't care less about these people with ordinary wants, like living in a little more comfort.

In spite of all the strikes against them, the people have found the time for music and dance. So it is coming when we get that Business Park in Makaha, we are going to have a great fusion of dancing on the Waianae Coast. Who knows we may emerge as the next great surge in ballroom dancing around the entire Island chain. Since no dance has a patent on movement, the sky is the limit in being eclectic. We will take the easiest and the most natural and dance it.

The other stuff (hard, difficult, tricky, fancy) can be for Professional Teachers of the competitions and exhibitions. And there are plenty different to ponder such as Acrobatic, Cabaret and others, But we will like it because we are also spectators. We may establish that the true "dancer" is one that dances. No other qualification should be needed. But we will develop terminologies to distinguish the different types and accept each others fields.

And most of us social dancers will be so fortunate that we will have many more places to dance for the simple pleasure of moving to music.

The Halloween Party

From the Internet:
A young couple were invited to the swanky masked Halloween party. The wife came down with a terrible headache and told her husband to go to the party and have a good time. Being the devoted husband, he protested, but she argued and said she was going to take some aspirin and go to bed. She told him there was no need for him to miss the fun. So he took his costume and away he went. The wife, after sleeping soundly for about an hour, awakened without pain, and as it was still early she decided to go to the party.

Because hubby did not know what her costume was, she thought she would have some kicks watching her husband to see how he acted when she was not around. She joined the party and soon spotted her husband cavorting around on the dance floor. He was dancing with every nice chick he could, and copping a feel here and taking a little kiss there. His wife sidled up to him and being a rather seductive babe herself, he left his partner high and dry and devoted his time to the new action. She let him go as far as he wished; naturally, since he was her husband.

Finally he whispered a little proposition in her ear and she agreed, so off they went to one of the cars and had a little bang. Just before unmasking at midnight, she slipped out, went home, put the costume away and got into bed, wondering what kind of excuse he would have for his notorious behaviour. She was sitting up reading when he came in, and she asked him what he had done.

He said, "Oh, the same old thing. You know I never have a good time when you're not there." Then she asked, "Did you dance much?" He replied, "I'll tell you, I never even danced one dance. When I got to the party I met Pete, Bill and some other guys, so we went into the den and played poker all evening. But I'll tell you...the guy that I loaned my costume to said he sure had one hell of a good time and scored like a champ!"

So how was your Halloween Dance party?
