First Notice for all blogs, I will be disabled for a few days and cannot do much. After a week or so I will get back in but every thing will slow down. From there one of the blogs will be deleted in June. It will be one of these three, Kokohead Dancing, Sea Country or Chicharrones. All three are in solid double digits average per day but they also have too many scam, spam, robot hits.

Most of the dancing will be in the West to spite the High Priced Choo Choo train. Most know how the Present Rail Party operates. Look what they just did to the Freeway going to the West. Auwe!

Out & About shout out: Kevin Mau @ Cinnamon's Wednesday 6-9 PM 4/29/15

A lot of dancers already know of Kevin Mau the one man band from the old Coconut Willy's @ the International Market Place and the Elks Club. I've been dancing to his sounds since I started and am on Kevin's group email. I got one a couple of weeks ago that said he was auditioning @ Cinnamon's in the Ilikai. Sarah and I decided to support his new endeavor. Joined by Charles and Weihong we had a wonderful time dancing in the open areas they created for us.

Well, last week they had him back again 6-9 PM but this time they opened up a dance area in front of him that can hold 6 couples. The floor is very danceable and all the dancers there had a great time.

Cinnamon's took over the Outside Bar Restaurant on the makai side of the Ilikai about 6 months ago.  The food is reasonable and tasty.

Over looking the Ala wai yacht harbor the ambiance of the sunset turning into twilight is breath taking. The cool trades refresh and Alana our server was very sweet and attentive.  For atmosphere this is one of the coolest yet.

Valet parking in front is $1 for every 2 hours w/validation. I park just under the back or in the harbor parking and walk up the stairs/ramp.

Kevin also plays @ the Waikiki landmark Wailana Coffee House and lounge Tuesday & Thursday 5-8 PM. We tried the lounge about 2 months ago and had a wonderful time. If you get there before 5 PM the pupus are 1/2 off and the drinks are happy hour priced. I ordered half the pupu menu and it was ono. The floor is carpeted but people still get up and dance. Very friendly atmosphere and crowd.

Out and about: Dot's the dance Gem and Sunday Tea Dance reprise.....

I know I blogged Dot's awhile back but this venue deserves another shout out. They have live dance music on Fridays and Sundays and sometimes on Saturday too!!!

For we dancers that live in the Leeward areas, West/North shores Dot's is a dance gem.

Last Sunday we returned to Dot's Sunday tea Dance 3:30-6:30 PM. A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Starts early and finishes early for those that have to work the next day. 

Sweet Sounds

The group was "Sweet Sounds" a Trio comprised of  Keys, Bass and a sweet singer. (I forgot their names. Sorry.)  The sound was full and the music very danceable.

I got there before Sarah so paid our $5 cover and moseyed on in. Ran into Deanie and Bert of the Aiea Ballroom club and was invited to join them. It's always nice seeing them and we got to chat before the music started. 

The Band started @ 4 PM people on Hawaiian time were still arriving. The Wahiawa and Aiea BR dancers had strong showings as did the line dancers. No problem as the dance area covers over half the banquet hall. Everyone got to do their thing.

Tymeless

This coming Sunday "Tymeless" is the featured group. Edwin Ramones on keys (formerly of the Krush) is the leader. He has Frances a wonderful vocalist  and Rey a solid Bass player for a great sound.

Check it out sometime, you won't regret it.

Tottering Along

So many nice dancers welcomed the New Year among their many friends from many chapters and dance clubs with good food and cheer and have enough left over for a few drinks. Now that spring has sprung some are finding it tough going. The Rail Disaster is not going to make it any easier. The Present Rail Party is intent on making their millions and millions of dollars in profits. Not too many complaints yet on the Tax Raises on Property but there will be.

Meanwhile dance fusion continues on the "street beat" and though slow going there never was a stopping it. For now the best case of fusion is using the Mambo basic as Rumba dance basic. A Rock Step and a slow step, looks and feels natural as hell. And what is more it will not be a fad, it is too basic and was danced maybe two or three hundred years back, maybe not exactly but somewhat. Yes, something like the International.

Left turn, right turn, easy as pie. Cross body lead and Underarm turn just as natural as ever. What is changed is the basic step. Arthur Murray's big mistake. Used in over one hundred Caribbean dances. Beguine, Calypso, Rumba, Salsa, Mambo, Son, Montuno etc. etc.

If adopted by the Fred Astaire group and the Arthur Murray group, dancers will probably be dancing it two or three hundred years in the future too, in sheer joy of moving to the most beautiful Latin music in existence. Then there is some fusion already of the Filipino Tango into the American Tango. It will evolve to be something beautiful and comfortable. You ain't seen nuttin' yet. And Argentine Tango also on the rise. Someone mentioned a Night Club in Kalealoa featuring Argentine Tango and Tango Valse. Watzzat?

And there is a second one at the famous Dot's In Wahiawa, leading the trend to West Oahu and do everything you can to avoid the Rail Hassle. We are mostly social dancers but there is talk about a place in Kalealoa for American Style of Competition Dancing. Tough for Arthur Murray dancers. Most competitions on the Mainland are run by Fred Astaire people.

Who said, that in competitions, it is better to go 0 for 10 than 0 for 0.

Most of the attendees are interested in the good music. But good dancing is preceded by good music, so it just naturally follows.

OK, the news is in, I have Dry Eye and there is no cure. I have to cut back on my blogging and perhaps one of the blogs may have to go. Not to independence as I had planned but into oblivion. This one is at the bottom of the pile in average daily hits. Just one good Two Center with a little dancing news and a photo now and then would do it. Just email it in with a name of even pen name.

With a nice club like Dot's in Wahiawa, Kokohead coulda been a contendah.

Swing has its fans, the ones that love the dance and socialize as people with the common interest. I may not be a fan but I certainly approve of it, they have every right to do as they please. They are not harming anyone. On Oahu we have the Swing Dance Club. And there are plenty of Swing Dancers in East Honolulu.

On the neighbor islands it seems that a large type of ballroom dance is Swing and mostly a Haole group, with the slow absorbency of Orientals and Islanders. Nevertheless they are growing. Only most people don't know about it. Our blogs are getting some information out and about.

Pub's Side Note: Social media in dancing is not about technology, it is about pschology. The tools are always changing but the concepts -- the engagement, transparency, sharing and entertainment?? They are all still there and they still work.
