What's Up, Doc?

We are gradually getting in touch with our reader/dancers in Hawaii. This is not the same as communication to or from the "Wheels."  If and when we get through to enough of them, there will emerge  a wealth of information to share with our readers. The hits will go through the ceiling and the blog will be ripe for independence.

I have tried to create a cause and the starting point of evangelism is having a great thing to evangelize. A cause seizes the moral high ground. It is a product or service that improves the lives of people, ends bad things, or perpetuates good things. It is not simply an exchange of things/services for money. Can we do that on the Island of Oahu? For many, the issue may still be in doubt.

The first and most important step is to get more information contributors willing to share dance information with their fellow dancers. Sending in a few photos wouldn't hurt anyone, at all. Advertising a future event is one thing, but what happened at the event after the fact is Social Media.  Especially if it not SOS.

OK, this blog remains in front of the our entire blogosphere, but losing ground ever so slowly. Mostly me, and that is not the view of the many independent minds of our friends and reader/dancers. I remind all, of SOS in blogging and it stands for the Same Old Shit. I say green on Monday and I say green on Wednesday and I say green on Friday, that is SOS. You come along on the next Monday and say blue. Wow, that is definitely not SOS. Mary calls Fred, Fred calls Sally and so on and we have readers (hits)

I do not treat all seven blogs the same. I do more of the promoting for the newer and lower ones on the totem pole. The ones on the bottom are Latin Rhythms, Extrava Danza and Dancing in the Dark. These last three took about three months to get them out of single digit average per day hits. Which is the place most blogs in Hawaii are. The results are that they do not post any counters and hide the fact that not many are reading.

Moving into possible first place in Hawaii and a good candidate for independence are Platinum Horseshoe, (Moanalua Corridor renamed) and which now covers territory in West Oahu.  Dancing Nights which covers the Night Club action anywhere in Hawaii. Dancing Nights blog is new but doing good because it has Richie Fun and that one Guest Author makes a difference. One more and we got it made for independenc, or some steady Information Contributors.

So the thing that makes any of our blogs is the consistent up to date dance information from a variety of sources. Those reader/dancers willing to share their 2 cents with their fellow dancers, will be the most valuable of all. And of course, Photos and some are more valuable than others. We will go into that later.

I am pretty well set up now in my new home, here at Hale O'Hauoli, right back of the Police Station in Pearl City. Now it is only a half day trip to and from the VA instead of an all day trip. The shopping center is much larger with two Super Markets and a Longs Drug Store. The Library is right around the corner

I have pared my blogosphere down to seven blogs and I will get rid of the best one as soon as we have enough Information Contributors and Guest Authors to make it number one in hits. Should be over 33 average hits per day which is equal to 1000 hits per month. Most on Oahu get less that nine average hits per day.

I seem to have reduced the scam, spam, robot hits that were messing me up in my calculations. And now I can start to plan on visiting more dance events and not only blog'em but perhaps convince someone to at least share the dance information with our reader/dancers.

Live Music On Oahu

Oahu seems to be a hot spot for live music, only we don't hear much about it in our blogs. However, most of our readers have their favorite spots, they are just shy of sharing it with our fellow dancers. You can find some of the best local artists performing throughout Oahu, from fine resorts to local bars and restaurants.

You may discover great music all along Waikiki’s main strip of Kalakaua Avenue, from street performers to local musical legends. You can listen to traditional Hawaiian music and watch hula performances at many Waikiki hotels. You can dance to Bachata and Salsa most anywhere. However much of the live music is for listeners, not dancers. We have to find it and share it with the readers.

From Hawaiian and Latin music at a local bar to sell-out arena shows, Oahu has a variety of live music spots to discover. We just have to find the ones where we can dance. Dancing is our game.

Oahu Dancing Marches On.

Dancing Nights, the blog, has the best stats of any blog on Oahu and for one good reason, Richie Fun and his blogging. I have several ways to figure this on my spreadsheet program and can predict a little. One good Two Center or the addition of a regular Guest Author would send this blog out in front of them all. If we can get one person to do the same in any other blog the proof will be in the pudding.

They are over ninety and she showed me the Valentine from her husband:

I have to visit more night clubs near where I live in Pearl City, maybe Waipio? And the Rail Disaster area is pretty bad. The social dancers seem to be using more Rock steps and the Chasse. And the Rock Step is the same as a walking even step. Just rock back and forth, one, two, three, four and so on. But you can do wonders with a walking step in a dance like the waltz.

The chassé has an extra step in there and is a little more springy.  It can be used very nicely after a drink or two when the spirits are higher. There are many definitions for the Chassé, and you can absorb as many as you wish. Once you have the one you feel more comfortable with you must vary the basic movement to enjoy the music better,

The basic is easy, the lead goes forward one half of the pattern and backwards for the second half of the pattern in a four count measure. Then there are left turns, and right turns. Then there are left and right chassés. Then how about a cross body lead? Hey, hey, there is plenty there. How about Under Arm turns? And of course, most of us on Oahu are aware that if you get a rock step combined with a chassé, you gotta Cha Cha Cha. Hey, let's dance!

Too Many, part one

Fusion and more fusion in ballroom dancing. Too many mergers of dances and too many difference dances for the "social" dancer, which most of us are. Fortunately we can eliminate all of the "for show" styles. Competition, Exhibition, Cabaret and Acrobatic Styles are meant for the "Spectator," whether they are dancers or not.We are going to settle down to much fewer dances where we can first enjoy the kind of music we really like, and then enjoy the movement to that music on the dance floor. And do it over and over again in sheer joy.

A Dance Ballroom in Oakland, California has introduced their latest agenda of dances in their repertoire. American Tango, Argentine Tango, Bachata, Bolero, Cha Cha Cha, Foxtrot, Foxtantino, Hip Hop, Hustle. Jive, Merengue, Night Club Two Step, Paso Doble, Quickstep, Rumba, Salsa, Samba, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Viennese Waltz, American Waltz, and Latin Waltz. -  Gawd! Much too much for us in Hawaii.

I am willing to wager that only one percent of our dancers on Oahu can dance everyone of those dances. But we must understand the protest against so much structured dances for public viewing. The same thing happened many years ago when ballet made all the strict rules and it was a difficult row to hoe.

In the graphic biography of the thrilling life of Isadora Duncan it comes out very nicely.  Isadora Duncan was the pioneer of modern dance.  She disliked classical ballet, finding it "unnatural." wanted to dance her way, which was inspired by the Greek goddesses. In bare feet, dressed in a tunic, Isadora danced, "Her Way."   Part Two in Platinum Horseshoe
