The Plantation Christmas Dance.

Nice day to prepare for the big Christmas shindig at Halemano Plantation. Camera, ready, only got one camera, paper to write notes, pencil. My medications, my Rum and Coke.and my right clothes. The Handi Van was to pick me up at 5 but arrived a little early but it was alright with me. Got to the place about 5:30 and there was already a nice crowd there, looking happy.

It was not easy to find a place to park my Rolador and sit. I have to move around and come back to the same place. And I take my seat with me. The people are so helpful and I got a place near the DJ and fairly comfortable. I have to look around and find some who can push the button on my camera and take a few pictures. Not coming out too good which of course happens with professional photographers too. This point and shoot camera cost about 70 bucks so perhaps someone can suggest a better camera. I may have enough photos for all five blogs, if I get some by email, but so far, nothing. I make each blog with three collages and each collage with six photos.

The leisurely pace of the arriving dancers is nice. No one is in a hurry to find the place where they will spent the evening, Greeting old friends, getting your pupus and drinks, talking story, listening to the beautiful music, and some are even dancing. Hey, this is social dancing to da max, a party.

Da Stats

Our Statistics, December 2019
Ask anyone who has a website and they will tell you that some of the most important things you can do are, to monitor visitors to your site and pay attention to the stats. I did not know much when I began 20 years ago, but I sure have learned. The present statistics available are fine for big web sites with thousands of hits per day but not for small stuff such as mine, They even give me how many hits I get from various countries around the world. I don't really care if no one reads my blogs from Nigeria or Afghanistan, What is very important to me is Waianae, the North Shore, Honolulu,  Most web sites no longer have hit counters on their sites.They cannot see any benefit.

Blogger Statistics lead the way to the mess. They have all kinds of statistics, where they come from, the operating system used used and dozens of other gimmicks. And they include scam, spam, robot hits which mean nothing for the Bloggers doing blogs. In fact they are detrimental to our data. If you inquire you can almost see their attitude. Their heads lean back a little and their eyelids close slightly as they pronounce from on high, "They don't exist." Wow! They are erratic and perhaps that is the only way to record them,

If you can get something close to the real thing, stats can be a very useful and valuable tool in getting your blog site optimized. They can tell you if changes you make are having a positive or negative effect on traffic. One of the best things existing at the moment is that some web and blog masters ignore stats and just "fly by the seat of their pants".  "Anything that can be measured can be improved" but you can't improve anything unless you can measure it. And the stats we have available at present just do not have give me what I think I should have. For now we can be somewhat skeptical.

Gradually there were others, the high priests, the mathematicians, the astrologers and among these were the professional musicians and dancers. They did not have to work in the fields, seven days per week. They got all that they needed, a place to sleep, some food, clothing, and it was mostly men. You need a little nookie, they could fix you up. And from the very beginning they evolved the first variation of the even step, "the Rock Step."

"Social dancers believe they can try to be clones at times."

Same as the Even pattern, but you could rock, back and forth or sideways. No one is sure but perhaps it took a full millennium to evolve the Chassé. At this time, they were also evolving music.  The move must have had many different names according to the place where it was used and no one has ever had a patent on it. The name was first applied in ballet when dance experts recognized the movement and used the term, "Chassé," from the French which means, to chase. Basically, it is the movement of one of the feet, followed by the second foot somewhere behind it and then stepping in the same the direction with the lead foot.

Basics tell us that we can do forward with either foot, backwards with either foot and sideways with either foot. Variations? Not many, perhaps a thousand or so. Now, it you take the Rock Step, break on the "two" and you will naturally rock back on the three. Then a Chassé on the four and one, and with the right music, you gotta perfect Cha Cha Cha. Someone invented this recently? Hah! And of course, they may even tell you how to do it "correctly." Yeah man.

 Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.

That which does not kill us makes us stronger.
