The Latest

Well we certainly need an information contributor of the doings in the Night Club circuit on Oahu. There is plenty of social dancing in Oahu and many are picking up on the action. There seems to be three distinct sectors. The young who will go for anything new and many of the fad dances last for more than ten years. The Lambada was the last big one which lasted a good 12 years. Over 20 million dollars was spent by who? I dunno, that is what was said. And there have been times a couple years back when looking around to get dance info, I would be very nicely informed,  "We don't have your kind of dancing here." Clear enough for me.

“Social dancers believe that she can take his hands, and he takes her hands and dance!
There's a wide and free world calling on them to make it their dance floor.”

The five most popular Social dances in the world are Foxtrot, Waltz, Rumba, Cha Cha, and Swing. Social Dancers on Oahu skilled in these five dances can dance with partners from any part of the world. They remain a part of the social dance scene of Oahu. In the Night Clubs, they figure to dance a combined American and International syllabi. However they do not play or dance, - Peabody, Paso Doble, Quickstep, Viennese Waltz or West Coast Swing, Samba has the fault of having too many basic steps, where all that is required is one. Bachata and Salsa are somewhat scarce.

Then we have the Peripherals, with the preferred music and dance of the participants. Swing dancers on Oahu are some the best in the world and they have some of the best music available for each kind of dance. Argentine Tango dancers on Oahu are probably the best in the Pacific. Their problem is that in Argentina, they have ten different Tangos. The latest to come in strong at the end of the century was the Salsa and lately the added Bachata. There are others waiting in the wings, Zouk and Kizomba.

So why not try it out? Come alone or with your dance partner. Learn something new, make new friends, and reap numerous health and social benefits… all from merely learning to dance.
