Dancers do not as a rule use computers. So that is one reason that our Web and Blog sites to not rack up much in hits. Though there are more computer users every year, which is good. Computer Viruses are on the rise again in Hawaii. We have been warned but no one has said anything about making them illegal. Seriously, we can have no respect for malicious invasions into our computers by any one without our permission.
They have also hit smart phones too. I haven’t seen any of these yet but it’s probably just a matter of time. Anyway, today I was looking at one that said "your computer has been locked." Also called Ransomware. If you call a number, and send them money, they will unlock your computer. I happened to know that trick and I am able to get out and restart the computer. Most people nowadays don’t really know how to properly describe malware. I don’t know what it is either, so I just call it a virus.
Education is the key, especially when it comes to PC security. So, let's make things sparkling clear. If your computer screen is filled with a FBI warning page that claims you have to pay the $200 fine, you’re infected with ransomware. Sometimes you can just shut down the computer. And there is no record of any unlocking by anyone of the payees to the ransom. Do not pay. Get help from any of your computer geek friends if possible. The Anti-Virus gang is having a field day selling all kinds of Snake Oil. Careful, it's a jungle out there.
