Where Are We in Social Dancing?

I don't really know, I get a little info here and there. Perhaps when we get more feedback from our good social dancers, we can post their opinions which will be very valuable indeed. Then there is the issue of restricting it to American Style of Dance. The Internationals have rules of their own, where they can dance and the places where they dance must follow the rules of the World Dance Council. We are not going to do it their way. We are going to do it our way, and that means leaving the Internationals to do it their own way. They are not wrong, it is their way and they are doing it very well. They have their own kuleana and we shouldn't interfere.

"Social dancers get body confidence. As they develop their skills they will
start to respect their physical vessel for it’s ability to achieve these
exciting new movements, shapes and coordination."

As much as we continue to promote social dancing we must also recognize "competition" dancing, and we will eventually have "American Style" competitions. We could make it only American with "loose rules" so that it would resemble our cultural dance. Paso Doble, Bolero and Viennese Waltz would automatically be out. They were originally made up by Dance Teachers. It was the money, Sonny. We see bolero danced very nicely in exhibitions which is just fine, but it does not have to be included as part of our culture.

The International Style already rules the roost where they are in town and we accept that they are too good for us. So let us respect their positions and give our people a chance. An awful lot of Club dancers don't even know what an International dancer is, but "they" can judge. They sometimes accuse us of being International dancers. At the same time that the Internationals are sometimes referring to us as "junk dancers." Ha, we are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Fortunately in this century there are a helluva lot more of us than "da bodah dem."

"We could obey the absolutes. When we were young, it was absolutely wrong
to lie, cheat, or steal. As we grew older, we would be tempted to
think in relative terms. Trump Chumps?"
