Looking Good

Recovering nicely from the beautiful shindig of the Aiea Ballroom Club. Hoping to get some photos emailed to me to post in this blog but nothing . No hu hu, if you cannot do or will not do, it should be strictly your decision and all of us will respect it. I got about five people to take photos and each got about five or six photos which was fine for one blog. I had a Handi Van at 8 or 10 and I picked the one at 8, because if they missed me at ten, I wouldn't be able to get home. No buses to my place after nine.

"Social dancing springs from a human desire for personal expression and
social connection. and for us on Oahu, it just feels plain good."

This week it is looking jolly all around and the night club action in town is doing very well. Salsa is still trying but Bachata is coming in strong. I don't get around much anymore so I don't really know much. Several of our key Salsa players that had been here a couple decades, have gone back to the mainland. I hear sounds of Bossa Nova and it is music that I like but that is not enough. For social dancing some are definitely out like Paso Doble, Peabody and Viennese Waltz. It is in good process of getting something established this year. Line Dancing was fun ten years ago when it was simple, but now it is way too fancy. Remember La Macarena and the Electric Slide?

"I Will Dance For You" by Willie K.

Honolulu is too crowded to live, work and play. Some people knew this at the beginning of the century and there was talk of Kapolei as second city. Then the "Rapid Transit" came in, with millions and millions of dollars in profits possible. They came up with a BRIGHT motto. "Keep the country, country." Bedroom communities, no good schools, no shoe stores (slippahs) work available in town, and of course, you could buy most items in town. It is now beginning to look different. No more talk of "Rapid Transit" it will take longer to get to Honolulu Hale from Makaha, than "now" with the deteriorating bus lines. This year we will learn a lot.

"For many of us, the Oldies But Goodies are still true,  When we dance, we can remember
them all a little better, feel the butterflies once again, and if only for a moment, return
to the purest part of our lives when time was of no matter … for we were dancing."
