The Dance Scene

Most social dance clubs on Oahu have established themselves as oligarchies, though in most cases, "benevolent" oligarchies. From the Greek, Olig, meaning few and Anarchy, meaning rule. There is little democracy in the organizations and they are prone to rot from strong cliques established within. Many people have said, "Too much politics." This has already happened to most of the social dance clubs on this Island, simply because no one seems to know why this is happening. In night clubs the rules are made by the club and most people live comfortably with them.

"Social dancers believe that social dancing has hooks for people from many walks of life."

In the Social Dance Clubs, once they knew who the members of the cliques were, they were run fairly well and relatively easy. The height of "Ballroom" was at the beginning of the Palladium and then International took over as deluxe dancing. The term "Junk Dancer" arose, then "Ala Wai dancer" and somebody was definitely looking "down" at somebody. Most clubs began to lose memberships.to new clubs. Fortunately some clubs have already done very well in regaining their lost footing and there is more contact with the night club scene.

Some are still trying to find a way out and do not realize yet what they are doing wrong. The new ones have come to realize that the more private you get, the more you will lose. Those have been the results. Blogs throughout the islands are developing into more personal, direct and more current communication, They give anyone a chance to comment in any blog and they are receptive to more formal answers and opinions in the blog itself. The hits go through the ceiling. Real Social Media is is evolving much different than anything we have come across before.
