What is danced on Oahu in the regular night club? Some say anything goes because many couples will dance the style in which they are accustomed to. No hu hu, unless they get too fancy. However the complications occur when asking a new partner for a dance. American Style is usually accepted even if night clubs on Oahu accept more of the Latin - Rumba, Cha Cha Cha, Samba, Merengue and Tango. Just because it is considered part of our culture.
The dance techniques used in night clubs are similar to the partner dances. Good street dancers adjust very nicely. And Country Dancing is an offshoot of the American and they can dance socially with each other easily. The difficulties are mainly in the International Ballroom in which they are stricter and allow only closed dance positions, whereas American Smooth allows closed, open and separated dance movements.
And the rules in International are much stricter as a discipline than the American. In addition, different sets of dance figures are usually taught for the two styles. International is mainly a competition style and American is mainly a social style, and therefore they have different dance values and figures in their respective syllabi. American style is the most common form of cultural dancing with variations, in existence in the Western Hemisphere.
