Competion Dancing

We have always had competition dancing in Hawaii. Perhaps not the formal, strict rules of National and International Organizations but competition nevertheless. We all know the John dances better than Fred and everyone also realizes that either one them is a far better dancer than me. These are well known assumptions that are made in everyday social dancing.

"I was brought up to believe that the only thing worth doing was to add to the sum
of accurate information in the world." ~ Margaret Mead

And most of us constantly try to get better. If you like more serious competition dancing, you’ll want to know there are two “flavors” — amateur and pro-am.

Amateur only means the participants don’t make living by teaching dancing. An amateur dancing with a teacher is pro-am. Amateur couples are scored by their performance and, in a pro-am competition, the amateur is the one being judged. Some competitions result in only one winner, and at those comps some folks don’t place or win anything. Other, less “serious” competitions may award everyone a first place, because you’re judged alone (and not against the field of other dancers in your category.

At one time we had a very well qualified person to critique the dancing and he may have been a little rough at times but it was very enlightening for all. His intent was not malicious, but to help you correct your mistakes as he saw them Unfortunately, the Creative Researchers And Producers won that one.

This blog used to be in solid second place. Now it is still in second place but
just barely in front of all the rest of the bottom blogs.

Now we will be discussing the truth in these blogs and some of you may still wonder what we are doing. But blogging is relatively new and in Hawaii’s blogs we will be developing some of the best bloggers in the dance world and there will be more, I promise you. Just one more Guest Author in Town Dancer and everyone will see the difference and I can prepare to retire from that blog and let it evolve on its own. Should be before year’s end.

I will  have my hands full with the Other Eight, and working like hell to get rid of the next one that shows championship form. It will not be a piece of cake but I will have something to do in the short time I have left and I will feel that I have done something.

Blogs are more personal, direct and more current communication, Many leave an opening for comments in each blog and they are receptive to more formal answers and opinions in the blog itself. The hits go through the ceiling. Real Social Media is much different than anything we have ever come across before.
