The review of the social dance scene can start early for 2019. However most what we will cover this coming year is already well understood by the intermediate social dancers. Footwork will sometimes require legwork too. This refers to the rise and fall of the feet, indicating which part of the foot is to be in contact with the floor on each step or part step; i.e. ball, heel, inside of foot etc. Specially important in the dances which are "to be seen," and specially those that are to be judged. That, of course, stands to a very good reason.
This is of little importance in the Social Dancing that is done for the pure enjoyment of moving the body to the music. And they can dance better to music that they like, than one that just has the beat. The feet land in the most comfortable and the most naturally balanced position. Most people can allow themselves to let go and if they have the rhythm, that's all they need. And the styling in the Syllabi of the different styles will differ among the large group of dancers on Oahu.
Regarding the worry that some of these very good dancers are watching you and are judging and critical, I have bad news and I have good news: - 1) The bad news is that unless you're a really super dancer, they're not watching you. You're being ignored. - 2) The good news is that unless you're a really super dancer, they're not watching you. You're being ignored. - 3) And if you are a superdancer, and they're watching you with a frown on their faces, it's probably because they envy you, and also they're hard at work trying to steal your material.
“Social dancers begin each dance the same way to the music and they want to make the moments in the movements important, vital, and worth living."
