Holding On

The hits on the blogs still vary but the hits on the entire blogosphere are going down, one or two points daily. I am learning and I pretty well know what is causing that. First I pulled back on my blogging. Then I pulled back on my visitations to the dance functions and that is specially crucial. A published notice of a happening is not anywhere near as interesting as the results at the happening with photos included. This could be easily solved by the Two-Centers and even better by the Guest Authors.

we must move accordingly."

The Social Dancer
By Stan Masaki, Pearl City

I commit to practice and have fun doing it. I will never become proficient in Social dancing, (or anything else, for that matter) without practice. In our case, just having fun dancing is practice. If you’re having a problem with a particular step or pattern, it’s perfectly acceptable to hang around a few minutes after class and go through it a time or two with your partner.

Practicing the steps at home once or twice a day can be fun with the right music and you’ll be amazed how much better you retain them throughout the week. It will make the next class just that much easier and more fun. This is another benefit of arriving early for class, it affords you the time to practice those steps once more before the instructor begins.

Most studios also offer a ‘practice party’ or ‘studio dance’ weekly or monthly. These are excellent for practicing what you’ve learned as well as seeing the more accomplished dancers, which is what you’re striving to become! There is great importance in the studio dances and the role they play in honing your dancing skills.

Make plans to attend the available dances regularly, even when you’re new and just starting out. Maybe even ESPECIALLY when you’re new and just starting out! You can get a better idea of what everyone is doing just by watching. The seasoned dancers are always happy to help a newcomer and the dances provide a perfect complement to your classes. ****

Pearlridge Chapter, HBDA has classes in American Style of dancing on Tuesday evening. You want American? Dis da place. They still do not have a Web site but they don't use the available facility of our blogging. Let us be patient. They have some of the best American Style dancers in the West and some of the very best potential reader/dancers of our blogs.
