Jargon

The above booklet came out just about the time of confusion setting in our Dance World and it was becoming noticeable that we were losing members. Many were willing to watch but not so willing to be participants in a show biz world.

"Tell Me Why" by the Four Aces

The Internationals, in a class by themselves, assumed that they were the real "Ballroom" dancers, and it stands to reason. They dance their competitions mostly in ballrooms. Their Ivory Towers made the thoughtful assumption that the terminology was rightfully theirs. Everyone else was just everyone else.

Next blog in line for independence. If they get the Guest Authors, they will be first.

At the same time there was a growing understanding among social (street) dancers that they did not want to be ballroom dancers. They were the real dancers and they danced something resembling the American Style of dance. It was to their kind of music in Malls, Gas Stations, School Cafeterias, District Parks, Community Centers and even in Night Clubs. A difference? Definitely!

The Jargon will start Alphabetically, and take one or two letters every week.
Should establish something for many to think about.

Now the Night Clubbers (dancing to live music) are coming to the forefront and they are dead set against International which is understandable. However they bandy the accusation around too readily. So as the Social, Recreational dancers that we are, in our Culture for ages, we must now seek the proper terminology for us. And, believe me, there are a lot more of us than any of them.

"Be My Love" by Mario Lanza

Now we will attempt to bring it to a head in the Dancing in the Dark blog, an update of the Jargon in the booklet of 1997, but especially for us, since the others have preferred to be excluded. We will need some help. None of us know everything, but all of us sure know a hellovalot.
