The dance viewers have always been there, a group of spectators at a public dance event, listeners or viewers collectively, as in attendance at a dinner/dance recital or showcase. A regular public that manifests interest, support, enthusiasm, or the like for "ballroom" dancing. We see them everywhere in our dance environment.

all great truths begin as blasphemies."
Thirty years ago, this particular audience of very little dance and much interest in viewing the folk dances presented was perhaps 5% of the attendees. It is perhaps 20 or 25% at present. Of course, the dancers have always appreciated the opportunity to see their fellow dancers in most group dances or routines. We had fewer outstanding exhibition type dancers in those days.

The peak of viewers appreciation was when ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" outdrew both editions of Fox Broadcasting's "American Idol" several years back. It was the week's most-watched prime-time television program, the first time any regular series accomplished the feat, outside of post-Super Bowl shows, in nearly five years.
Many on the dance watch ("America's Best Dance Crew," "So You Think You Can Dance," "Dancing With The Stars") were probably quietly hoping that NBC's "Superstars of Dance" did well. The mixture of styles, the continuation of the love of dance, the costumes and everything the viewers love.
