The Creative Researchers And Producers

You remember when HBDA had 3000 members? When IBDI had 1500 members. Pan-Pacific had 1100 members etc. What happened? The Creative Researchers and Producers had a 60% control of these clubs. And ran them right straight into the ground. Now it may still be around 30%, but it is still there and mostly in the center of town.

"We can be miserable or we can motivate ourselves.
What ever has to be done, it is always our choice."

You can play a game in a classroom or party setting. It works best with less than 30 people. Line up everybody in a circle. Pick a starting player. The starting player comes up with a piece of harmless humorous gossip about somebody in the group, such as "I heard Bill sleep walks to Walmart at night." The starting player picks a player in the circle and whispers this gossip into their ear.

This person then whispers the gossip into the ear of the person to their right. This gossip circle continues until it gets to the last person in line. This person restates the gossip they heard, which will be drastically different than the initial gossip. You can use this game to illustrate how fast gossip travels, anywhere, not just in dancing circles and how different it can end up being. Fortunately, blogging results are much different than that. All opinions, right or wrong, are up front.

There is an increasing amount of dancers in the Studio groups and also in the Night club groups and mostly into the American Style of dance. And perhaps a little less looking down their noses at the clumsy dancers. That part of dancing in town is not perfect but certainly going in a better direction.

The outskirts are moving very nicely except for the always present problem of finding a place to dance. However they have developed their own versions of the di facto rulers of the clubs. Once we have a more democratically run dance club we will get more members. If not, there is a new club forming next month.

Lualualei Industrial Park

Yes, the Present Rail Party is still trying to stop the building of any industrial parks in the Waianae Coast. "You gotta keep the country, country" and the citizens should spend half their working days commuting to work and buy everything in downtown Honolulu. Auwe! And they bring up agricultural land that has not been used for agriculture in ten thousand years. Look around you, thousands of acres not in use. Why? We are talking Big Bucks here, the owners want 90% of the action.

Quote from the Present Rail Party:
"Tigers don't lose sleep over the opinions of sheep."

The Waianae Coast is shaping up a lot faster now that the bad effects of the Rail Disaster are coming through. We have a Primary Urban Center, from Nanakuli to Makaha, that is characterized as a predominantly built-out market, with potential redevelopment as a possible key component of future opportunities for industrial growth.

The beautiful Waipio Industrial Park. What do the residents that work
here think about it? You want to ride the rail mess? You got it, lucky
you and everyone else is going to pay through the nose.

Most of the District’s existing commercial and industrial uses are small in scale but are growing in importance due to the public transportation changes. The increase in traffic on Farrington Highway has brought out the urgent need of another two lanes. But our representative are helpless against the Rail Expenses which increase daily.

The beautiful Articulated Bus. With enough of them we coulda had it made in the shade. The #93 from Makaha to Honolulu Hale in an hour and a half. "Rapid Transit" the Rail Catastrophe will not beat that in a million years. Not a misnomer, a deliberate lie. Its the money, Honey.

The projected growth in population is already creating a need for more support, retail commercial and industrial acreage, although recent trends indicate a shifting of shopping habits towards local stores from anything in Honolulu. Waianae Mall is doing a terrific job of promotion on Facebook. SeaRider Productions still has too much Honolulu influence, so they must go along with the Rail Crisis.

The good thing is that more of our local leaders have voiced the need for more local industrial parks. The many benefits are there. The main one being, "I coulda been home in 20 minutes." We do not have to spend half our working days in commute. Paradise is close at hand.

Nuttin' Much

Nothing much doing this weekend in the Corridor. There is, but we are just not aware of where. There were a couple of mortuaries with a little action but no one has reported on it. We have few Two Centers.

Q: Why did the dancer cross the road?
A: Because she had to do it on the other side!

But I am certain that there is going to be dancing every weekend in the West some time in the future, though for now, everything is moving out of the Rail Disaster Area. Waikele, Waipio, Mililani are all ripe for the picking. Then at the other end, Salt Lake and even Kalihi looking good. We will all play it by ear.

Will take some planning but it must be for the benefit of the dancers. If the dancers can see some benefit to them and not too many restrictions, that is it. Any other reasons are superfluous and dancing in downtown Honolulu is now understood to be an absolute non necessity. The Rail Calamity clinched it.

"Sh-Boom, Life Could Be A Dream" by the Four Aces

Pub's Side Note: We cannot do what one person tells us to do. But we can certainly hear what many of you say and then we must move accordingly. The Two Centers too?

September

For most in our dance world, from September on, it is mostly cruising in the same style as during the prior months of the year except there is extra Party Time. I never see any thing on Labor Day, shouldn't we be have some fun on that day?

"And it takes a level of respect to appreciate for what some people are -
and perhaps, for who they aren't."

Some people will communicate with us and we may include it in our print. Some have other ways to advertise and they should exercise their privileges. But we can give you a better idea of what blogs are good for.

Wahiawa Ballroom Dance Club is having a Filipino Fiesta at the Wahiawa Recreation Center on Friday September 9th. And some of the attendees are going to be swinging from the chandeliers. No truth to the rumor of six cases of champagne.

Kapolei Chapter HBDA will have their session end Social at the Makakilo Community Park on Monday, September 8th and they will have as special guests the members of the newly formed Ewa Beach Chapter, HBDA. Promises to be a rousing good time for all.

"Dance of Destiny" by Tony Martin

And according to Richie's blogging:
Divino Ritmo is having a their monthly social dance session at their studio, the Aloha Dancesport Center on September 13th and  29th. There is dancing around town.

For some reason or another National Ballroom Dance Week has never been extensively promoted here in Hawaii. This year it will September 19 to 28 and I haven't read anything at all here. There seems to be quite a bit on the Mainland. It is USADance sponsored and other dance groups would rather not intrude.

"Somewhere Over The Rainbow" by Bruddah Iz

It would be nice to make it a week to remember in our community. It is never too soon to think about how Hawaii's Chapter will participate in this special week long celebration of ballroom dance. We have few reasons.  The first is to share with others what we enjoy so much, social ballroom dancing. Unless they have new restrictions lately.

The Ko-Olina Resorts

They have been working on it to rival Waikiki for several years but unfortunately it has been reserved for the rich. With more hotels the invitations grow for more attendees and perhaps lower prices.

"We can stop people that do so little for us,
control so much of our minds, feelings and emotions."

Japanese boy band Arashi’s two concerts in Hawaii next month are expected to bring in more than $18 million in direct spending from concert-goers. There will be more than $100 million in public relations and advertising value surrounding the event, according to Hawaii Tourism Japan, the marketing arm of the Hawaii Tourism Authority in Japan.

The Arashi Blast in Hawaii at the Ko-Olina Resort will be two shows on Friday, 19th and Saturday 20th of September. And it will be outdoors at Nai'a Lagoon, at 5:30 PM. It could pave the way for more Asia-based artists to play on the Waianae Coast and in Hawaii.

The Rail Catastrophe has awaken many people that now know they can live, work and play in the West. Actually many of the attendees will be residents from Kalihi and West. We are getting a very good group together, strictly social and it all is pointing towards Kapolei, Second City.

"In This Life" by Bruddah Iz

Then we have to figure how to get rid of Da Big Eye Sore, the Hawaiian Electric Power Plant. Could be moved to Kakaako or Hawaii Kai - anywhere, just get it out of Paradise.

Moanalua Corridor, Where?

For all practical purposes we start the Moanalua Corridor from the vicinity of the beginning of Moanalua Road at Waimano Home Road in Pearl City. Just as good place as any other, Pearl City. The end is a little confusing. It ends right after the Moanalua Golf Course in Salt Lake somewhere which is good and the areas mauka and makai is close enough. So for the dance community we must plan on everything at least four blocks away from the Noise and traffic of the Rail Catastrophe. It may not be too bad.

"Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability
to keep a good attitude while waiting."

Moanalua Corridor had been developing for decades as a Di Facto Second City. But now for sure, because of the Rail Disaster, Kapolei is taking over and going full blast for second city status. Everything will be there, they can live, work and play in their own city and avoid the Honolulu mess. The Kalealoa Airport is running very nicely and the area around will have Industrial Parks and Night Life.

Fortunately Moanalua now has Dream To Dance Studio in Palama which a short way. Then there is Aliamanu Intermediate where HBDA has there Ohanas. So there will be a new dance club by next year in this sector if they can find a place to dance. Aye, there's the rub.

"Dance with Me Just One More Time" by Johnny Rodriguez

It is going to be rough but we will help in the Public Relations department all we can and keep looking for Two Centers and Guest Authors for this blog. The hits will go through the roof, and could look forward to becoming an independent. But fortunately, more people are aware that the expected riders of the Rail will not be the only ones making the effort to avoid it at all costs.

What's Doin'?

As per usual, we don't hear much about about dancing in the East. Each party has their own private communications but of course, there is nothing like blogging. As in most of Oahu, few people are aware of what blogging can do for the dance community as a whole. Look at what a great job Frank does with his two blogs, for so many. And there are at least three blogs doing a terrific job for the night club circuit. Blogs are it.

"At some point in time we just have to let go of what we thought
should happen and live in what is happening."

Kailua Movement Studio is now under new ownership as Arthur Murray Movement Studio. They are located at the corner of Kainehe and Kailua Rd. And their address is 776 Kailua Road 2nd Floor. (Across from Kalapawai market.) It is the only Professional Dance Studio in the East. But they have their own Web site and we all know how that works.

There is another Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Town and there could be a Fred Astaire Studio in Kapolei. However Fred Astaire people are simply not interested. We should respect. The Dance Studios in town are doing very well and of course some will be doing better than others.

"Come and Dance With Me" by Charlie Calhoun

The upcoming Hawaii Star Ball will do a lot of decision making when it is established as to who has developed the best International Style dancers on this Island. Competition is the name of their game. The blogs may or may not have a field day.

Pub's Side Note: In Hawaii, dance blogs are enabling hundreds of dancers to express their opinions with reduced political risk simply because of the sheer number of like-minded opinions online. Facing these independent voices, the old clique machine starts to crumble.

Coming Along

The entire blogosphere is slowing down in advancement and it is very clear that there is an over dilution of the present reader/dancers. All the stats indicate the right direction it is just slower. The sharing of information has not been easy. That sharing is what is referred to as Social Media.

"Be thankful for what you are now and keep going
after what you want to be tomorrow."

And everyone becomes richer for the experience for they get many different view points and not just from the "Big Shots" running the show. And gradually everyone's kuleana should get bigger and we will have more understanding of our fellow dancers.

Bailamos (Let's Dance)
- Enrique Iglesias

Just email photos and tid bits of info to any one of our Guest Authors for starters. You may contribute more later when you see the good results. There is the particular image that a blog portrays and Town Dancer is no different except that it is at the top. And why? Simply because they have the Guest Authors. At the moment it is mainly exhibition and competition type dancing information.

Baby, if You Wanna Dance - The Michael Stanley Band

But it will be more varied as we acquire more Guest Authors. The other blogs have only me and that is considered SOS. Our new Information Contributors will decide if they wish to go that route or if they wish to diversify. It is not up to the Big Shots, it is all up to the Information Contributors.

Pub's Side Note: Photos are valuable in the inverse proportion to their availability. How you figure, one nice photo of the dance gang in one of our blogs, compared to the same photo in Facebook who is due to get 350 million today? You got it!

Blog Sites

What is this Blog Site?

In our case it is a series of content (called "posts") that are usually organized by date with the most recent post showing first. Our blog may have several bloggers, each having their own blog within the blog and blogging whatever and whenever they damn well please. It is their blog. Our blogs also have "comment" forms at the end of every post that allow the readers to give the authors feedback and interact with other readers.

"Once you have accepted your flaws, no one can use them against you."

Blogs (taken from the phrase "web logs") were originally created for personal journaling. Now people use them in place of a website and some people, even own both. Our blogs have a topic (dancing) that compels us to write fresh information about dancing on a consistent basis. Fortunately, we are not territorially bound, and if we can get enough help, we can provide fresh and independent content on a regular basis. Otherwise, people may stop reading our blog if all they see is SOS. (same old shit.)

In order to create a blog you need to choose a platform. The two most common blog platforms are WordPress and Blogger. Both platforms are free and provide user-friendly editors for you to publish your content. No programming or additional software is needed. If you do decide to go with a blog, the proper study of the possible readership is very important.

"Volare" by Dominic Mondugno

Then the ultimate for this blog is to become independent.  With a couple more Guest Authors, the hits will run up enough so that the blog will not need me. We can choose another Administrator and I can phase myself out to my ultimate resignation. I have too many other blogs to work on.  I am sure that the Guest Authors will run the hits up where no one can catch them. Of course, I could work on getting the second best independent.

The Most Horrible Noise

The Bombardier train is an example of the type of steel-on-steel technology proposed for the Honolulu rail system. Honolulu has picked the oldest, noisiest technology for a planned $7 billion commuter rail line connecting Kapolei to Honolulu. The Natives don't know the difference.

"In the end, you tried and you cared and
sometimes that was enough."

John Pritchett cartoons, now appearing in Midweek.
Steel wheels on steel rails represents a means of moving masses of people in and out of urban Honolulu, but it is also the loudest, according to a city-appointed panel of experts. Steel-on-steel technology is going to be a big problem for some residents near the elevated tracks, where trains will pass at up to 55 mph about 360 times a day from 4 a.m. to midnight.

The biggest noise impact would be along Salt Lake Boulevard, though neighbors along Farrington and Kamehameha highways and Dillingham Boulevard are very likely to be affected, according to a city consultant. So any new dance clubs and in fact any new business must try to get three or four blocks away from that din, if possible.

Meanwhile our blog is here to help whoever we can. Just watch what is happening in the Platinum Horseshoe blog. Everyone is planning a work around the Rail Crisis and the beach area Kalealoa is coming up to the forefront. Got a few bars and now even a new HBDA Ewa Beach Chapter. Things going like a house afire.

"How High The Moon" by Les Paul and Mary Ford

The beautiful Articulated Bus, one tenth the cost, five times
more efficient and "I coulda got it right around
the corner where I always did."

Pub's Side Note: To our reader/dancers, please consider yourselves, now and henceforth, and no matter what anyone ever asks of you, free to do any damned thing you want as long as it doesn't hurt someone else unnecessarily.

It is sparking

The Rail Disaster is beginning to descend on the Windward coast. It is possible to live, work and play in the same area.  Getting home in 20 minutes does not have to be someone else's dream. They have been pretty tight with their Marine Corp Air Base and many realize it would be better on the Big Island.

"Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take
to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway."

Think breathtaking splendor and you’re sure to find one of the magical wonders of Hawai‘i, the majestic, picturesque Ko‘olau Mountains. The stunning lush emerald 2000-foot green cliffs are the backdrop for the 242 tropical acres of the Ko‘olau Ballrooms & Conference Center and golf course, a beautiful elegant site for both indoor & outdoor weddings, receptions, banquets, meetings, conferences, retreats, birthdays, graduations, project grads, concerts, and a variety of social events.

"Shave Ice" by Loyal Garner

Located on the island of Oahu in beautiful Kaneohe, the Ko’olau Ballrooms & Conference Center’s remote location serves as an oasis, secretly tucked away from civilization and still only minutes drive from Waikiki and Downtown Honolulu. This facility is nestled deep in Ko’olau’s forest conservation land and provides an elegant, serene environment unique to any other venue of its kind in the world.

With magnificent panoramic views, a variety of delicious cuisine, and excellence in first-class service, the Ko’olau Ballrooms & Conference Center is everything you imagine paradise to be.

So What Snew?

Doesn't look too bad, the Stats show the hits creeping up, slowly but surely. The Rail Disaster is a growing problem with the increasing realization of the Noise. Places to dance in the West are going to be hard to find. And we must avoid getting within three or four blocks from the Rail Noise. This a ten year drag, Many are already there and willing to wait on you hand and foot. However, it will cost you an arm and a leg.

"Most people achieve their greatest success one step beyond
what looked like their greatest failure."

The Dance Pavilion in Waipio has been cancelled, not officially but they need the money to pay for the Rail Catastrophe. More people are also accepting the fact that our type of dancing and our present social groups do not need acres and acres of dance floor. So there may be a way a couple of clubs could get together and install a nice dance floor in a good sized Community Center or District Park and hope the monthly cost could be held down. This has been done on the mainland

The best dance floor in the West remains at the Waianae District Park. The prospects would be very favorable for a new Dance Club in the Kalihi - Salt Lake area and one in the Honokai Hale - Nanakuli area. HBDA is doing quite well in the area where they are at now with Kapolei Chapter and Ewa Chapter and are even going to get bigger. The West is getting to be wide open. No need to get into the Honolulu Traffic.

"Three Coins In The Fountain" by the Four Aces.

Some people already comment on leaving a dance function in the West and getting home in 20 minutes. A function in town will take you 20 minutes to get out of the parking area. And more people are becoming aware of all this. The Rail Crisis will cost way too much money but we are all learning in the process. Somebody made a huge mistake somewhere.

Pub's Side Note: $100 worth two lowest places. DC, $84.60, and Hawaii $85.32. And the Fed money for the Rail Crisis is running out and Hawaii will be at the bottom of the 50 states. Lucky we all rich.
