Waianae Coast Marches On

Wai'anae is the main town on Oahu's leeward coast. That's why this side of the island is also often times referred to as the Wai'anae Coast.

These kind of things will develop on the Waianae Coast

as we develop the sense of third city.

Waianae is where leeward residents stock up on food and other necessities and rely much less on Honolulu than ten years ago. And we could use another supermarket right about Maili territory. Wai'anae has two Super Markets, a drugstore, a bank and a few fast food eateries, food and clothing stores. And fortunately we have prices that are competitive with downtown Honololu. Wai'anae also has a post office, public library and high school.

At the Wai'anae Small Boat Harbor, tour operators launch their boats to take people out to snorkel with wild dolphins or to cruise along the coastline, but not of much use for local people. They may get the new ferry starting from Waianae to Town for those wishing to avoid the Rail Humbug. Though it is a small working harbor where you can also see fishing boats and small yachts.

We can decentralize for the benefit of the citizens of the Waianae Coast. We don't have to worry about what they are doing in downtown Honolulu. Right off hand we have Makaha and Nanakuli to decentralize to. And they are on their way but not spectacularly. Makaha and Nanakuli both need a Business Park for the citizens and not for downtown Honolulu. "I coulda been home in 20 minutes."
