Getting There

Many people in West Oahu are coming to the conclusion in this century, that there may be different styles of dance. There are those that are meant to be seen, - competition dancing or exhibition dancing with theatrical purposes.  They may be quite different from those of us that learn to dance for the pleasure of moving to music. And even that can differ according to the music. Social Dancers know more or less what they want.

both for themselves and their partners."

On Oahu, we can see all sorts of dancing and each one with excellent reason. We certainly should  not look down on anyone of these. If we want to do our thing, - they have a perfect right to to their thing. So it comes down to the fact that we are Social Dancers and we are going to dance as we wish. All others can certainly do as they wish. That makes three divisions in our type of partner dances with similar music. American, International and Social Dancers. I went to a social in Wahiawa and they played  "Bachata," that is not in the syllabi of either American or International dance styles - and the floor was packed. Anyone dig that.?
