Magna Carta "Great Charter" of rights agreed to by King John of England at Runnymede, near Windsor, on 15 June 1215. "Those that are ignorant of history are condemned to repeat it." No he was not Trump but there is a resemblance. First drafted by the Archbishop of Canterbury to make peace between the unpopular King and a group of rebel barons, it promised the protection of church rights, protection for the barons from illegal imprisonment, access to swift justice, and limitations on feudal payments to the Crown, to be implemented through a council of 25 barons. “Social dancers believe that there is nothing like a dream to create the future.”
On Oahu the coronavirus pandemic hit, and we ware forced to confront our discomfort with the kitchen. And many of us are glad we were. We love cooking! Finding and then following a new recipe each night can become a ritual but it does not have to happen that often. We can depend on when, and almost everything else is uncertain. We don’t know when we will be able to see all our good friends in our dance community again. But many of us know that if we lay a steak in a pan with garlic, salt, pepper and butter, we can have bliss. Every time. I think I will open a new bottle of wine now.
We have a long list of dances available for the Social Dancer on Oahu when the lights go on again. Waltz, Fox Trot, Rumba, Cha Cha Cha and Swing. The second tier is well liked and danced with pleasure but is not missed by all. Samba, Tango, Mambo, Merengue, Salsa and Bachata. The American Syllabi will change but the International will remain the same. Do I know everything? Of course not. I am hoping to get opinions to share with our fellow dancers. Email them in and I shall post.
