Night Clubbing Anyone?

In general, places to avoid are those aimed squarely at the fast moving and fast music loving of the under 30-year-olds. Alternatively, Latin, tropical, global beats and reggae events generally have a broader age mix, partly because they reflect cultures where it’s normal to welcome cross-generational party people. Of course, Salsa is a quite unique group with Bachata closing in fast.

"If you can't get rid of the skeleton in your closet, you'd best teach it to dance."

Vintage dress-up and reunion nights are obvious options too – the former with its focus on refined dancing and the latter often popping up to celebrate 20 years since its glory days of partying, marketed via various nostalgic groups.

But they are not all the West will offer. There is a growing group of over forty dancers that enjoy the night club atmosphere where they are not trampled on by a bunch of kids. They may not fit into that scene anymore, and on Oahu there no longer the stigma attached to being an over-forties clubber. It is coming to Kapolei.

"Contigo A La Distancia" por Christina Aguilera

It is definitely on that scale in the West with Dot's In Wahiawa leading the way. They have a restaurant and  a night club. The nearest thing to the Granada in Alhambra, California - just needs the Dance Studio. Just Tacos in Mililani is mainly a restaurant and too small but easy to get packed on Saturday Salsa. And they just started Salsa at Cholo's on the North Shore. Can Kapolei be far behind?

Still Here

This blog, near the bottom and along with all the others is leveling off. They all need something and I know it and other people know it, but we just cannot get together. Many are interested but don't know how to get into it. There are not that many computer literate people in our dance world. It is still taking time. Slowly we move and once we get moving nothing will stop us.

"If you want to truly understand something, try to change it."

I am slowing down in my blogging because of my physical disabilities, and the hits drop.  But the blogs are slowly adjusting to each other and it is becoming quite clear that territorially the Information Contributors and the Guest Authors will ultimately make the difference and define each blog.

"Morning Dew" by Melveen Leed

I try be much less strict than originally and let each and every information  contributor make their own decisions as long as names are attached. Each will operate as if it were their own personal blog. I am sure now, from my own personal stats, that our total blogs cannot go above the current nine blogs, in the foreseeable future.

"I Can Dream, Can't I" by the Andrews Sisters

So we are getting to that point if getting the best ones into independence. First pick any blog and comment. This is known as feedback. And all of our blogs need this just to live. And the second part, of course, is becoming a Two Center and will email information and/or photos for the benefit of the reader/dancers.

“We all know now that a lie can only control a person if that person believes it.”

Let it roll

Now all I have to do is blog for a while. It will take a couple months to know which way this blogosphere is going. But it must go its own way. I can help but just a little. It will still be wide open to comments, and Two Centers. I don't have to repeat myself. Platinum Horseshoe is doing all right and with the right people, wow! The rest are up for grabs and anyone can do it.

"Every day we are gifted with a glorious sunrise and a glorious sunset,
life is happening, we are alive -  and yet we want more."

The dancers are pretty much Town Dancers. They belong to clubs in town and they dance in town. So the comments will be directed to these people. I see very few comments in all the dance blogs of this island. This will come about slowly when they find out what blogging is all about.

The Tango is developing quite well in town. There seems to be more groups and for some reason or another they do not quite accept the fact that it is Lain dance. Many do not know that there are ten different Tangos danced in Argentina and that ain't Europe.

In the rest of Latin America it is about the same for Argentine, International and American. The Finns developed the Finnish Tango which became so popular in Norway and Sweden that eventually went thru the Baltic countries over to Poland, Germany and Denmark. It is now known as the Nordic Tango.

In its heyday, China developed a Tango derived from the Argentine Tango and gradually was acquired by Korea and Japan into their own tangos. We have the Filipino Tango which is fusing very nicely with the American Tango on Oahu and may eventually evolve into a Hawaiian Tango

And there are several others developing on the mainland. The most famous for now is the Foxtantino which fusing the Fox Trot with the Tango. Personally I would have a "social tango" that we could dance easily with each other on the regular social dance floor. Call it what you want but make it all basic, very basic moves just so you can enjoy moving to the Tango music.

Reorganization

Latin Waltz, the old Latin Rhythms blog is due to be deleted by July 31st. The reader/dancers have made the decision whether they knew it or not. The old Chicharrones has inherited the name Latin Rhythms and it will take a few days to make all the adjustments. There will still be nine blogs to choose from, and the reader/dancers will make the decision.

The Waianae Coast is going through some trouble because of the Rail Disaster and people are moving away from this section. Everyone knows that Farrington is doomed. The money has to go to the Fat Cats in Honolulu. And they want more naturally.

We may lose it.

It is looking like the Rail Disaster is making the final decision for this blog. We tried  and others have tried but the Rail Crisis will continue and get worse. At one time, this was the most heavily populated section of Oahu next to town and could have been very easily Second City. Most people can see the disaster that is happening around them now.

"Adversity is something we all try to avoid as often as possible,
but it is through adversity where true strength shows itself."

The new slum district of Oahu is already developing south of Farrington from Pearl City to Town. Kalihi north of King street will be more class.  As it will also be north of Moanalua Road. If we must dance, we have to go elsewhere and Kapolei and Kalihi are getting ready.

"Stranger In Paradise" by Tony Bennett

Pearl City to Salt Lake will be a part of the Platinum Horseshoe blog. Kalihi will be in the Blogging Hawaii blog. And we will still publish whatever information and photos we can get for the benefit of all. Comment, Two Centers, Guest Authors are all welcome. The phase out will be slow, perhaps to the end of August and give it the benefit of the doubt all the way.

"These blogs will remain, of the dancers, by the dancers and for the dancers."

Trip to Honolulu

I made the deal with Grey Henry, the famous Salsaman to be there at the Buho Cantina in Waikiki on Tuesday at about 8:30 PM. The entire thing was a failure, from the beginning except that I learned something from it. And at my age, that is what counts.

"The principles derived from probability are that truth or certainty is obtained only from facts. However in Hawaii, no proof is ever required."

Dis Da Blog that may make it to Independence
I got the wrong time schedule for the C bus and just missed it. Went back home and got the time for the next one and just made it. Got to Ala Moana Center in one hour and let me tell you, the Rail Disaster will never beat that in a million years. Big Secret. Ben Cayetano and his people knew this.

No comments, no opinions, tough
In town, I found out the last #8 bus would be at some time after ten pm. Not much time to get all the information that I needed. I checked and found other alternatives, I could get the #42 bus straight to Waipahu and then transfer to the #40 bus there to Nanakuli. Not bad.

I found Buho Cantina and Greg Henry, giving classes in what looked like Merengue. A few more people came in and then I thought I would take a picture and test the camera. Wow, I completely forgot to install the memory card. I excused myself and tried to find somewhere to buy a cheap memory card. No way.

I decide to go back home and forgot to get some ice but it was interesting anyway. Got the first #8 bus going back to Ala Moana Center. And got off the Makai Side looking for somewhere to get some ice. I asked at the local MacDonalds and they gave me a cup of ice free. Hey, I am not going to talk stink about these people.

"Somewhere Over The Rainbow" by Bruddah Iz

Poured it into my flask and I was just fine before the #40 bus got there. Nice friendly and helpful people and I got a good seat, took two spaces and I do feel guilty but then most of the standing people are young people. No hu hu. And I got on some of my videos to enjoy on the trip home. Amazing that I got home at eleven. I couldn't believe it.

Finally Equals

Or pretty close to it and it was easy. At the same time I am finding out a lot of facts uncovered in my spreadsheet data. Seven Guest Authors that could blog once a week would send the hits up through the roof. I have just let all of them go (Guest Authors and Blogs) as they wanted to go, Yesterday was the first time that Blogging Hawaii passed Town Dancer is average hits per day. Now I can match them and blog each with the same amount of days omitted.

"The first step towards our success will be taken when we refuse to be a captive
of the environment in which we find ourselves in."

Platinum Horseshoe and Moanalua Corridor will be part of this top group because either one of them could be a good number one with a good steady Two Center and a good steady Guest Author. The rest will remain in the possibles and with the same criteria.

"Maui Waltz" by Loyal Garner

Comments are still needed at the end of each blog, but there the reader/dancers have not been accustomed to talking back. The Two Centers couldl be willing to email information and/or photos will determine which of the blogs will stay.

"The World Is Waiting For The Sunrise." by Les Paul and Mary Ford

The reader/dancers are sure to respond with hits where there is information to be had. I have found that the biggest myth about modern blog tactics is that you need a huge list of followers to achieve your goals. I do not believe that to be true.

Most of what we need is information and photos to share with our friends, neighbors, relatives and fellow dancers. Every one is accustomed to advertising "before" the fact. Very nice and we consider that information. Whereas the most important part is the public relations "after the fact" in our dance groups and let everyone know what happened at the shindig, photos and information.

"Stranger In Paradise" by Tony Bennett

In my experience, most dance web and blog sites are selling their club or organization as a social service. Although there is a small obstacle, it does not seem to be that many dancers are computer literate enough to surf the dance web and blog sites. However many seem to be learning very well. Once they become aware of the pot holes in the internet and learn to avoid them, then they can get a lot from just surfing the net and getting the best information on dancing and of where to enjoy your dancing.

"They don't require proof, so if their minds are already made up,
do not confuse them with facts."

Waking Up?

There seems to be few dancers that can see the need for a place to dance in this area. The traffic in Honolulu is very bad and due to get worse when the Rail Disaster is in. There are many places to dance in town and the only reason they are losing people is because of the traffic on Kalakaua. On Saturday night, Wow! - it is worse than Los Angeles,

"We do not have to wait; the time will never be 'just right.' We must start where
we stand, and work with whatever tools we may have at our command,
and know full well that better tools will be found as we go along."

So what can we, as citizens of this community do to help? Yes, we just need a place to dance and we mean in West Honolulu. You gotta go downtown - fine with us. But the outskirts are wanting more independence from the Fat Cats in town. Nobody wants another Rail Catastrophe in their back yard. Auwe.

"Green Eyes" by Jimmy Dorsey

Perhaps even the first Latin dance club in Hawaii. Latin Waltzes (two of them,) Rumba, (naturally,) Cha Cha Cha (a must.) Also there is Samba, Tango and even Mambo. Most of the social dances of the last century. Anyway, there is enough variety there to please most social dancers. If they want to throw in Fox Trot, why not? Perhaps the two dance studios in the vicinity could help.

Looking Bleak

The Rail Disaster is starting to hit the Waianae Coast and the price of eggs is leading the way. And we cannot blame the egg merchants. Before the traffic jams caused by the Present Rail Party, - transportation for the delivery of goods was pretty fast.

"While we do our good works let us not forget that the real solution
lies in a world in which charity will have become unnecessary."

Now, everyone knows that the traffic situation is going to get worse not better with the Rail Calamity. And we also know there are millions and millions of dollars in profits from the Rail Crisis and somebody gonna get it. Some of our politicians are still being paid off by the Present Rail Party. Look what they did to Ben Cayetano. Talk about lying - those people are experts.

"Somewhere Over The Rainbow" by Bruddah Iz

Fortunately they are working the Governor and there is a good chance that the neighbors islands will have to foot the bill which will be another billion starting next year. The Fat Cats in Honolulu already know they got it in the bag. They had to hire an extra man to shovel the money into the safes as it comes in. Easy Money and the Rail estimates are sure to go higher before long.

We did have some good news. The monthly prize in our lottery was finally claimed today by a member of the City Of Joy, our next door neighbor. Hope she knows some good computer church members to help her learn the basics. And she can call me and I hope I can help. And Aside: we should have more commentary from the readers. Your opinion is valuable for the rest of the readers.

Blogging

At least now we know. People still accept Web sites a lot easier than Blog sites. For some reason or other, there seems to be more "class" attached onto a Web site. We use to hear it quite often, "Oh, we have our own Web site now." as if that established that they had "arrived." There is more to it than that.

"Wonder rather than doubt is the root of all knowledge."<

Now in our blogs sites, we are concerned with communication to the vast dance audience out there and much of it has ignore us. We have ample evidence that graphics (photos) have a definite tendency to increase user engagement on Web or Blog sites. Therefore, we need to include as many visual attractions as possible to promote our content. If we can get the people to learn how to email a photo, we can post and share with our fellow dancers.

"The World Is Waiting For The Sunrise" by Les Paul and Mary Ford

And though the counters are pretty badly done, we can still use them as a guide. Mine were pretty well screwed up with scam, spam robot hits that did something for somebody but certainly not for me or the reader/dancers of this community. I have been gradually reinstalling the counter on our blogs. Not the gospel but they help to compare in many ways and I can install my own methods into my spreadsheet program. And I am learning all the time. Anyone out there knows it all? For sure the more information that comes in and is published, the more readers we will get. It is taking time.

"Follow your dreams and the universe will eventually open doors
whereas before, there were only walls."

We still have Twitter, Word Press, Tumblr and Linkedin to help spread the word. Many of them with my Pen Name. We just dropped Facebook, they are just too much. You can have them.

Age Bracket

I can remember in the last century, the young made the definition. "Never trust anyone over 30" And it still stands though it has not been carved on rock. So us, the over thirty will respect, and there are five times as many of us as them.

"Change is not something that we should fear. Rather, it is something that
we should welcome. For without change, nothing in this world would
ever grow or blossom, and no one in this world would ever move
forward to become the person they're meant to be."

So it is pretty well on its way, the two divisions of Night Clubbers and the acceptance of some differences. The younger groups will consume much more alcohol than the older persons. The elders will have had enough of the getting drunk in public from their younger years and tend to be for enjoying the activity of moving to the music of their choice.

And we come to the "oldies but goodies." There has been a big difference established by the DJs and by the live bands. Most DJs are always on the look out for "what snew?" The Live bands are always looking for the that old one from 20, 30 years ago which "seems to sound even better when we play it." The whole enchilada of the oldies but goodies is looking better every year on Oahu. We have oldsters that know good music when they hear it.

"Morning Dew" by Melveen Leed

We seem to have inherited this entire section of music from the younger groups. It could be rightfully ours and they certainly have the right to like whatever they want to like. We should not disrespect anyone.

"It was a splendid summer morning and it seemed
as if nothing could go wrong."

What is this about CHIP, the worlds first $9 PC? Impossible! But then they are pointing in the right direction. Both Microsoft and Apple have "bloatware." Thousand of programming lines of crap that no one will ever use. And "pushing?" - nauseating pop ups? How about Adobe? And they used to be such a respected name only 10 years ago. Now their programmers are forcing and dragging the name in the garbage dumps. Auwe.

Bright Lights on Broadway

There were over 100 thousand albums published in the last decade. With an average of 10 songs each, that is over one million songs in the last decade. We can say safely that less than ten percent will be memorable, which is still over 100 thousand songs.

"When we look to discover the best in others, we somehow bring out the best in ourselves."

No one that puts on their earphones when they get up in the morning and take them off in the evening to go to sleep can hear that many songs. And hearing music in that fashion just isn't "da reel teeng,". why? Think it over. Music is to be appreciated and too much is, well, too much.

"How High The Moon" by Les Paul and Mary Ford

Anyway we received a postcard from Doug Kesler with this nice poster of
the Extravadanza Of The Year in Just One More Month.

You will have time to dine and dance to good music, enjoy the terrific
entertainment but also time to digest the splendor of it all with
your friends, neighbors, relatives and fellow dancers.
