"Maui Waltz" by Loyal Garner
It began to evolve almost three hundred years ago and is still going strong with perhaps, 10 different styles of the one, two, three count. For instance, in Mexico they like the Viennese type and in the rest of the Americas more like the American or Country styles. In Japan they are very much into the International style.
"The Last Waltz" by Englebert Humperdinck
There are several types of Waltz in the US and American Social style Waltz is a different dance from International Standard (Slow) Waltz, both of which are different from Country Waltz. And there will be an amalgamation of the Country with the American. They are practically interchangeable at present.
International Waltz (both bronze and silver) are progressive dances that move not only down the line of dance. They also move diagonally (3/8th turns according to the syllabus) across LOD, and include both straight tempo steps and syncopated steps (dbl. reverse spin and syncopated chasse in the bronze syllabus).
American bronze is more of a spot dance, closer to box rumba than silver waltz, and International people say that it was invented by franchise studios in order to make money by easy teaching stuff to paying students as slowly as possible. Fortunately, most of the teachers we have today are dedicated to have their students become good dancers and appreciate all the good ramifications.
