Community Organizations

This blog is still nip and tuck when it comes to staying or being deleted. We give it another month. Connecting with a few community organizations would help. These are civil society non-profits that operate within a single local community except that for now, they do not seem to know what a blog such as ours could do for what they stand for.

"Let us hope that we may attain the wisdom to know what must be done,

and then have the courage to do it."

They are essentially a subset of the wider group of nonprofits. Like other nonprofits they are often run on a voluntary basis and are self funded. Within our community organizations there are many variations in terms of size and organizational structure. Some are formally incorporated, with a written constitution and a board of directors (also known as a committee), while others are much smaller and are more informal.

The recent evolution of community organizations on the Leeward coast, has strengthened the view that these "bottom-up" organizations are more effective addressing local needs than larger charitable organizations. However, web sites are something they can understand very well, blogs are for somebody else.

Leading the pack Searider Productions based in Waianae High School. Next is Waianae Mall but unfortunately only on Facebook. Makaha Productions has been very quiet lately. And then there is Western Stories, a written monthly publication and they do quite a good job.

There several others but the same thing applies, Web sites are terrific but blogs can be for later - much later. Typical community organizations are community-service and action, health, educational, personal growth and improvement, social welfare and self-help for the disadvantaged. Anyone out there that can use our help?
