Losing Ground

I am not getting much dance news from the Moanalua Corridor. They all seem to be doing just fine and they have their own Web sites. I will have to be patient and I will help those that need when the opportunity arises. A short review right about now should be necessary to look at the direction we may be going. We don't really know but most of us have some good guesses and it will be up to all of us.

- are the ones that do."

Ballroom dancing did not really start to roll in Hawaii until World War II with the influx of so much military from all parts of the Mainland. But roll they did and it overflowed onto the locals on Oahu and the neighbor islands. People just like to dance, it is a most natural thing.

Then in 1959 came Aiea Ballroom Dance Club in the West with the first local dance club to teach ballroom dancing in big groups and at local prices. They did great. There were others that came later in the West such as Wahiawa Ballroom Dance Club that is still in existence.

The Night Clubs in this section believe that dancers are not drunks.
Therefore, not really acceptable but one of these days.

Then came the differences of opinion, and HBDA was established in town and they did very well. Then IBDI was the first spin off to get independent from HBDA. And of course it would not be the last. In Town there has been a proliferation of Dance Clubs and the top five for so many years are no more.

The "deutchland uber alles syndrome," has been crucial in this. One of the newer ones is now in number five spot and the one that was there is number six. So we expect the next new dance club to be in the Foster Village-Aliamanu area. There are many dancers there that do not wish to dance in Town. The Rail Disaster has done some unintentional good.
