Nite Clubbing?

A nightclub may be also known as a dance club or simply a club and it is an entertainment venue which usually operates late into the night. A nightclub is generally distinguished from bars, pubs or taverns by the inclusion of a "dance floor." Unfortunately, most night clubs in Honolulu have floors too small for the clientele. And they are very frank, they want drinkers not dancers.

"Perfection may not be attainable, but if we chase perfection,
we are sure to catch excellence."

The music in nightclubs may be live bands and in the West the best example is Dot's In Wahiawa and many dancers come from the North Shore. Or more commonly, a mix of songs played by a DJ through a powerful PA system. Most night clubs in Honolulu cater to certain music genres such as Salsa-Bachata. There is one that goes for Country and many that go for regular social partner dancing.

Fortunately the regular nite clubbers and the American Style social dancers are coming to terms and seem to be merging very nicely. Together they represent the overwhelming number of dancers on Oahu, perhaps two thirds. The kids have their places very well designated too. Will there be a Tango Night Club?

In Europe and North America, nightclubs play disco-influenced dance music such as house music, techno, and other dance music styles such as electronica, breakbeat, trance and Latin. Most nightclubs in the U.S. major cities that have a young adulthood clientele, play hip hop, dance-pop, house and/or trance music.

In Hong Kong, China and Korea, night clubs may be used as a euphemism for a hostess club, much as our local Korean Bars and the association of the term with the sex trade has driven out the regular usage of the term.

A recent trend in the North American, Australian and European nightclub industry is the usage of video. VJs ("video jockeys") mix video content on a large screen in a similar manner that DJs mix audio content, creating a visual experience that is intended to complement the music. How about Frenesi by Artie Shaw, in black and white? There on the big screen on the stage, you can see the entire band playing and the music is as good as it gets.

The beginning of the 21st century has seen the financial growth of the nightclub industry in the United States. However, the number of nightclubs and employees has been decreasing. On Oahu they will be gradually moving out of Waikiki and Town to Salt Lake first. And Kapolei will not be far behind. How about the North Shore? Or the Waianae Coast? Either one could be Third City! You couldn't find a better class of people, they don't have to follow the Fat Cats in Honolulu.

On Oahu, mainly due to the Rail Catastrophe, Night Clubs in town will gradually move to the suburbs. Everyone already accepts that the traffic in town and Waikiki on Saturday nights is going to get worse. The rents in town will go higher, and there is plenty of room in the outskirts. Kapolei will be leading the way as Second City with a nice hub around the new Kalealoa Harbor and the new Kalealoa Airport.
