What is a blog?

They have asked me and I don't really know for all our blogs are in a progressive stage of development. I cannot make many decisions and we are the island of Oahu. Most will be made by the readers, the information contributors and the Guest Authors of every blog. And every blog will evolve their own unique kuleana.

" If we do not plant knowledge when young, it will give us no shade when we are old."

A dance blog is a similar to a website but it is usually arranged in chronological order from the most recent ‘post’ (or entry) at the top of the main page to the older entries towards the bottom. The results are a much more current information source. At the moment the primary area being covered by our seven blog is the Island of Oahu. There could be ramifications going to the neighbor islands and it most certainly will cover any Big Island events   We will give them all the publicity with any information made available to us.

"Be My Love" by Mario Lanza

Where the Internet is about availability of information, blogging is about making "information creation" available to anyone. Therefore, any new bloggers we will get from the dance circles on Oahu will be crucial to expanding the readership of all our blogs. The probability increases that we could get an excess of 67 average hits per day for this blog and that means independence from me. It is in my plans before I go.

"Fly Me To The Moon" by Jimmy Borges

Our new bloggers will not have any real commitments. No annual or monthly meetings or dues. They should blog at least once per month, but no one will be keeping track. Otherwise we carry their names just for the sport. They make the decision of the subject matter of their writing and they will probably get adequate feedback from their fellow dancers.

"Remember back when everyone was disco dancing and
then we did it and that was the end of that?"

Yes

This blog so not doing so bad. It is well into the teens in average hits per day. But like all the rest of the blogs, there is somebody out there who will "make" this blog and have it rise in hits. And it is very simple. Just contribute a little dance information to share with our fellow dancers. And they have been getting more every day.

"On the whole, the happiest people seem to be those who have no
particular cause for being happy except that they are so."

Of all the outside public relations I seem to have the best handle on Twitter. I let the followers do their own thing. And I pick my follows pretty carefully If the combination of following and followers is more than 1000, I ignore them. I don't need anyone that is too big. They will overwhelm me. And I use Tweepi to remove bad followers otherwise. I try to keep the amount of follows to about 180. That keeps my Twitter running good and I can get my good licks in.

"Ven Devorame Otra Vez" por Azucar Moreno

This blog started out to be for the Live Music and Dance fans and they are willing to read but not to share the info with the readers. They should do as they please. However there are some that are doing it now and that is appreciated by all of us. Richie Fun gets some good information on Dancing Night blog.

Three Good Reasons God Created Eve:
God worried that Adam would always be lost in the garden because men hate to ask for directions. — God knew Adam would one day need someone to hand him the TV remote; men don’t want to see what’s on Television — they want to see What Else Is On. —  God knew that Adam would never make a doctor’s appointment for himself.

Ending April

Not bad but not good either. The Line Up is still erratic but it is settling down, somewhat. Town Dancer still ahead of the rest and they are all pretty close together. It is (surprise) Ritmo Mestizo in second place and Platinum Horseshoe in third. If my foot heals by next month I may go out a little.

"We should all know that dancers are like moons and they
have a dark side which they never show anybody."

The rest are really running so close together that they fluctuate in the order they will place easily. But for now it is Blogging Hawaii, leading the pack, then Extrava Danza, Dancing in the Dark - and Dancing Nights. The last one regaining a little because of Richie Fun Blogging of Divino Ritmo Studio. And they may regain more by tomorrow.

"At Last" by Glenn Miller - Ray Eberly on vocals.

We are waiting for the new Dance Club in the West, but so far nothing definite. And of course there will be a Night Club in Kapolei by the end of the year. Or the combination Dance Studio and Night Club. For sure something is needed in the music and dance departments. Second City! - don't let the Present Rail Party goof up the works.

"With A Song In My Heart" by Frank Sinatra

"I Believe" by Frankie Laine

So we must continue to find places on the Waianae Coast and the North Shore and perhaps we can do something to help spread the word. There are many possibilities, Social Dance Clubs, Night Clubs, Specialty dances such as Line dancing, Tango, Country, Swing and Bachata. It is all coming in spite of the Rail Catastrophe. As it should be, the people will make those decisions.

“We could understand that dancers need something to help them unwind at the end of the day and they might have a glass of wine,"

Botttom

From being at one time in the top three, it has now dropped to the bottom of the pile. Of course, it was a little too young to be there, Little news on club dancing and I am now physically impaired. I cannot go out and get the information and the photos. What ever is emailed to me I can post. It is fairly certain that I can carry a blog with about 20 average hits per month. A good steady Two Center is worth 15 to 20 average hits per day,

“Tell it straight, don't bend; don't water it down; don't try to make it logical;
don't edit your own soul according to the fashion."

From the little I get, night clubbing on Oahu is doing just fine. And the outskirts around the Island are looking better all the time. Cholo's Homestyle on the North Shore and Just Tacos in Mililani with Salsa. Dot's in Wahiawa with good old social dancing. Kapolei and the Waianae Coast are getting ready, we are all waiting. I have heard rumors of something at Turtle Bay but they are keeping it secret from me.

"La Comparsita" by Carlos Gardel

We need a couple good steady information contributors so we can share with our fellow dancers. And a good steady Guest Author would guarantee getting back on top. Many dance organizations have Web sites but they are copyrighted so I cannot copy and give them any free public relations. None of my blogs are copyrighted so I have seen many of my graphics on the Internet.

"Fly Me To The Moon" by Jimmy Borges

The thing that interests me most at the moment is the possibility of a Pau Hana dance, Tea Dance style. One day per week, preferably Wednesday to break up the week. Start at 5 pm, right after work. Just like happy hour except, less drink, more dance and more eat - plenty chopstick pupus. A Juice Bar could be included. Could go until about 9 pm and the freeway home would be nice. Go to sleep early and be just fine the next day. Could be part of living in Paradise.

“Accept what life offers you and try to drink from every cup. All wines should be tasted; some should only be sipped, but with others, drink the whole bottle.”

Nightlife On Oahu

Honolulu is so nicely decorated with swaying palm trees and white sandy beaches but that doesn't mean the city is lacking in dance clubs. They gottem! Hot spots all over for nightlife to include dancing  They have classy and hip drinks, live bands and DJ music and fellow dancers to make a fun crowd. Some of the clubs are open till 3 or 4 a.m. so you can't beat the hours anywhere else on Oahu.

"Working for a just distribution of the fruits of the earth and human labor
is not mere philanthropy. It is a moral obligation." ~ Pope Francis

Numerous dance clubs line the streets of Honolulu, most making a home in Waikiki, and range from dance hall, to artsy hip places, gay bars, and even a western cowboy inspired place for a different type. Most people attending are social dancers and interested in the social aspects of the music and dance. There's something here for anyone who's looking for a fun night on the town.

"Somewhere Over The Rainbow" by Bruddah Iz

However the traffic is pretty bad and when the Rail Disaster is completed it will be worse. There are places on the outskirts of Oahu that are beginning to develop. The Central Valley is leading the way with Wahiawa Ballroom Dance Club, Dot's In Wahiawa and Just Tacos in Mililani and a possible fourth in Waipio or Waikele. Kapolei is falling  behind. And Tacos And More in Waianae has Live Music on Wednesday and Thursday.

"Shores Of Haleiwa" by Loyal Garner

Then there are "Oldies but Goodies.? The DJs play good music and are always on the lookout to get the latest and the best. In this century there has been a growing group of dance fans with their preference for the oldies but goodies. These more experienced social dancers have a good memory for the terrific classics that are emerging from the last century. And Live Music has been the answer.

My physical disabilities prevent me from getting around to get information and photos, so whatever you can email, I will post to the blog of your choice.

The Adjustment

The adjust is going nice and smooth. I will polish the entire blog sphere at the end of the month with a new order for the blogs. It still looks like it will take a good steady information contributor to get Platinum Horseshoe ahead of Town Dancer. The rest are up for grabs, whatever that means.

“In our dance world, there is no greatness where
there is not simplicity, goodness, and truth.”

Meanwhile, the Rail Disaster continues to screw up the works just about anywhere. Estimates continue to go up, and now at 8 billion dollars. You can buy 1000 articulated buses for less than one billion dollars. But the Fat Cats in Honolulu are raking in the dough. Anyone have an idea of what members of HART get in salaries? And all they got to do is say "Right,Chief" at the right time. Hanabusa just got on, it's "Easy Money."

Fasi and his gang knew that they could please the riders by making it comfortable to ride public transportation, People would prefer that than bumper to bumper on the freeway. Now it is going to be the other way around. The "know it alls" in the Fat Cat department just never cared and they will never understand. Gotta build dat rail. Big Bucks.

Fortunately, the social dancers on Oahu are making their adjustment without too much trouble. I have been trying to figure out how many social dancers we have on this Island and I have pretty close estimates to 20000 dancers. Anyone else have a figure from somewhere? I would think it coutld go to 30000, but what do I know? The new Fred Astaire studio in Kapolei would make a big difference if it is ever installed. Their Rumba box step is quick, quick, slow. Arthur Murray's is slow, quick, quick. We can have a ball with that.

I usually leave Sex out of it but now I have been informed
that Sex is like math. You add a bed, subtract the clothes,
divide the legs and pray you don't multiply.

Still Slow Going

It is still Town Dancer and Platinum Horseshoe leading all our blogs. I have pulled back one level on all blogs, and let the information contributors and the reader/dancers decide as to which ones will move. I have none that may be for deletion. But in May I may have a third place more definite than Dancing Nights. We will be closer to what should be the top three.

"The truth is not for all dancers, only for those that seek it."

I really do not understand how all this happens, but I just go with the flow. I have counters on my blogs that tell me an awful lot. And I cannot waste anytime where it is not productive. I cannot even get to update Dance Fever Oahu because I am not quite sure yet.

"Maui Waltz" by Loyal Garner

I am getting good advice and some help from around the Island. Makaha, Kalealoa, Central Valley and from the North Shore. I will have more time to do that as soon as my foot heals, now that I have trimmed a lot from my plate. The reader/dancers will mold each blog into its own. We seem to be getting more readers from the West which show good interest.

"The Tennessee Waltz" by Patti Page

The most progressive area is the Central Valley led by Wahiawa Ballroom Dance Club, Dot's in Wahiawa and Just Tacos in Mililani. That leaves it up to Kapolei because they are supposed to be Second City. Of course, the Rail Disaster has been very bad on their construction. Which is getting even worse in the Pearl City to Aiea section. SNAFU.

"Blogging is an idiom and many are not yet aware. - Blogging is using the
new medium for what it is good for - connecting and interacting."

Live?

Since most of us pretty much never go anywhere anymore without headphones blasting music into our ear holes, Oahu’s live music scene ranks pretty close to its restaurants and bars in terms of cultural goings-on. Some places in Hawaii birth entire musical genres and hordes of artists, while others act like magnets that bring in eclectic acts from across the state.

“We must never be afraid to raise our voices for honesty and truth
and compassion against injustice and lying and greed."

The music of Hawaii includes an array of traditional and popular styles, ranging from native Hawaiian folk music to Latin, modern rock and hip hop. The Live Band action on all the Islands is very  good and dancers appreciate it. Actually Hawaii's musical contributions to the music of the United States are out of proportion to the state's small size.

"Contigo A La Distancia" by Christina Aguilera

Styles like slack-key guitar are well-known worldwide, while Hawaiian-tinged music is a frequent part of Hollywood soundtracks and is well known in Latin America. Hawaii also made a contribution to country music in the US with the introduction of the steel guitar. Hawaiian music has had a notable impact on the music of other Polynesian islands. And we got most of it on the Island of Oahu right now.

"El Trieste" by José José

However, some dance clubs not only on Oahu are now installing a "juice" bar with all kinds of exotic mixed fruit drinks, delicious and thirst quenching. Have you tried Mango-Pineapple? Outta this world! When you are dancing the body requires liquids in any form. The fruit juices may just be better for you and furthermore, they may be cheaper than anything else at the other bar. You can't lose.

Live music on Oahu is here to stay.

MidMonth Recap

It is good and bad. Bad because I had had these blogs increasing their average hits per day fairly fast. They are no longer increasing at the same speed. Good because they are still increasing. Patience, I must wait for some information contributors, the famous Two Centers. Each regular one is worth at least 15 average hits per day for any blog. Of course, a regular Guest Author could be worth much more than 20 average hits per day for any blog.

"Dancers may believe anything, so long as it is not founded on truth and yet we all know that truth is the only safe ground to stand on."

"Sweet Someone" by Don Ho

The list is still led by Town Dancer but Platinum Horseshoe could surpass them in hits with just one regular Guest Author. Third place is currently in dispute. By the end of the month, it will be Blogging Hawaii or Dancing Nights. The top three I keep separate because of the probability of going independent. Then I can resign. they would be on their own and we can all predict a huge success.

"Hawaii Aloha" by Loyal Garner

Most downtown Honolulu blogs and those on the neighbor islands are doing well.  They have readers/dancers and they are leading the way for all dance Internet communication. But I have to work on West Oahu. Too many think in terms of the country bumpkins. Well, it will take time but the outskirts are just as good as those in town.

"My Moloka'i Woman" by Willie K

The bottom blogs will remain in double digits but not quite into the 20 average hits per day. And like the rest of the blogs, Guest Authors or information contributors will make the difference and they will pick the blog of their choice. So the entire enchilada is really out of my hands and the dancers will make the final decisions.

"At ninety years old, I no longer have the energy - for meaningless friendships - forced interactions - or unnecessary conversations."

Portable Night Club

There are many possible places to dance on Oahu. The trend for portable outdoor entertainment is hitting Latin America. It has gone one step further on the Mainland with an alfresco alcohol bar and a juice bar included. Could there be one in Waianae for next weekend? Then maybe on the beach in Nanakuli for another weekend.?  Portable dance floors are easy to set down once you get the knack of it. And you can all keep it a secret if you wish.

"We don't have the power to make life fair,
but we do have the power to make life joyful."

Yes we are still dreaming
A portable bar and night club. This anywhere, anyhow, anytime club comprises of inflatable cubes to create the overall effect of a chill bar or cool zone! Nothing is cooler than ice, it's not all just aesthetics, as the club has to be waterproof as well as wind resistant, and hold a large number of cool hunters. It's translucence allows for amazing light laser shows at night - just add ice or mix your own lightning juice!

Too many in the West have downtown thinking which may be alright downtown but we may find out that the West is going to be leading the way for the outskirts of Oahu. Perhaps all around the coasts of all the islands. We are all changing and we are going to get dancing on the Waianae Coast sooner or later. We could try to make it sooner. We will find out that dancing for fun does not exclude us and "I coulda been home in twenty minutes."

"Because Of You" by Frank Sinatra

Meanwhile, I have to seek more information contributors to get at least one blog into independence this year. A good independent dance blog should have five or six Guest Authors to develop the blog into its own complete identity. It would become the most powerful voice in social dancing on this Island.

"Return To Me" by Tony Bennett

Pub's Side Note: Through blogging we are sharing data including photos and we may be shaping the future of our dance society in ways that cannot be entirely predicted. Specially and because there are so many different opinions and many stumbling blocks that remain in the way.
