Social dancing cannot be stopped

Terminology in Dance: The entire island including myself is sloppy in our dance terminology. I know and most of us know what a left turn is. We can do it Waltz, Foxtrot, Rumba etc etc etc. We also know what a right turn is. Elementary my dear Watson. And then some time ago there arrived some real experts on dance terminology. I heard it, it was the "Natural Turn." Tadom! And for most us that just enjoyed moving to music we were shocked. We considered the most common turn that leaders led was the left turn. But the "Natural Turn" according them was the right turn. Think of all the years we were dancing in ignorance.

"Social dancers know that the tremendous social aspect of dancing has been of
paramount importance in pioneering dance in West Oahu."

Then I came across the Contrary Body Movement (official) also known as Contra Body Movement in Hawaii. When I discovered it many years ago, I wrote about it in the "Waha." Some of the “top” amateur teachers with “real” knowledge of dance terminology flipped their collective lids. I was publicly derided. And many of them for several years, We cannot blame them, what the hell did I know? But they could bring it up as a good point to elevate themselves among their contemporaries.

Then we have a big young crowd that will move to music in the simplest manner possible and acquire many movements by mental telepathy or something. They also have many sub groups in which there are many good developments. The ones that enjoy moving to the music, will be the ones to evolve into line dancing, nite club dance or cultural dance with little structure for help. However the long established 30 year old barrier still exists. Don't fight it!  What is getting them on the solid path to a new Night Club scenery is the many places where one can go, have a  drink, relax and dance in a pleasant environment.

"Social dancers know that as soon as anyone starts telling them to be realistic,
they gotta cross that person off their invitation list."
