It is quite different nowadays. When we arrive at the studio, now only Monday, Wednesday and Friday, we immediately review the changes with the few dancers before classes started. Sensing fear from the dancers, we can assure them that we are being careful. If we used any prop, we lay it aside, making it clear that it would be cleaned before being used again, and we wiped down any other items used between every use. And we recommend that you bring some napkins to wipe anything you wish to help with. The Waste baskets are emptied outside after every session.
“Social dancers are not going to let their heads hang down. They will never give up
and sit down and grieve. They will find another way. - And don’t pray
when it rains if you don’t pray when the sun shines.”
I have heard of studios asking dancers to bring in towels. Actually anything that minimizes the possible transfer of the virus. The evening that the governor announced that all Hawaii schools would be closed, we temporarily shut down the studio. We issued an email informing students that we were closed for the eight days preceding spring break and tentatively planned to add the canceled days some time later. Most adjustments should be made when we begin to bring down the cases. For now they are still going up. Hawaii has a Democratic Governor and we are not getting much help from Federal Government.
