Evolving very nicely

I receive a nice email from Calvin and I seriously thought of using so many of his good points on the interaction between the different groups of dancers. I was thinking of a Cultural Dancers Guide. But after discussions with a few others, I can see that it will probably not be in my life time. Meanwhile we can do the best we can to get along with one another.

Blogger's Law No. 23B: The time it takes to rectify a situation is
inversely proportional to the time it took to do the damage."

First off of course are the Internationals. And they set the "anti" course when they no longer qualified the "correct" according to their style. This was remarkable because by default if you were not dancing it their way, you were dancing "incorrectly." The icing on the cake was when the term "junk dancer" arose at the Palladium and that did it. That was the nail on their coffin.

There slowly arose, and was led, not so much by the fans of American but by the "anti-internationals." Not only that but it was applied in error to all Ballroom Dancers indiscriminately. And you can see the type of information that has evolved for their readers in Honolulu Dance Guide blog.

And their hits are going through the roof. So let's face it, the readers are communicating and this blog has a big following. You take the ten best Web sites pro-International and together they cannot match the hits in Honolulu Dance Guide. Does that tell you something? Pay attention.

Then we have the development of other "Rootzi Tootzis." The Argentine Tango people dance "da reel teeng." Without even recognizing that they don't dance the original Milonga. Many do not know the difference in Milonga and Tango music. And there are at least ten different Tangos danced in "Argentina." So I look forward to an amalgamation of the American Tango and the Filipino tango for fans of the old time Tango music and emerge as the Hawaiian Tango for our Cultural Dance.

The Line dancers have been developing an elite for awhile and all we can say is, have patience, it too will pass. The best thing they have at the moment is the greatest thing for social dancing in this century, the Playlist. And the fact that they are getting more men line dancers into the regular social dances. Looking good.

The Swing dancers have alway been there mainly in their love of the music, which is understandable. And they have usually been restrained in criticizing the other groups. They have been instrumental in introducing the West Coast Swing to Oahu. On Oahu we have a younger group and an older group though many attend both which seems to be just fine with everyone.

The Salsa, Bachata dancers are really into their music and dance. Though many don't know a guaracha from a danzon. They know what they like to dance to. Fortunately as the old novelty dances die out, new ones come into prominence and they keep going as a group and willing to invite others to join them. Is Zouk coming in?

The Night Club dancers are too varied and many blend into the listener group. (RockAndJazzHawaii blog) But they have a valid claim on the social dancing on this island and they will continue to have a big effect. However, none of them will have the influence of the Regular Cultural Dancers of the social clubs on this Island. They remain the biggest of the dance groups.

Pub's Side Note: Just as new clubs were established in the 90s to promote International Style of Dance, the new social dance clubs emerging will reflect something that has been over due for the entire enchilada on this Island.
