Pau Hana Tea Dance

By Justin Cheong, Ewa Beach

I have been reading about Tea Dances on the Mainland and there have been Pau Hana dances on Oahu and all sound very interesting. I am sure someone is going to try a better way for Honolulu. However with the Rail Fiasco looming up ahead, it will never be done in the West but it would do well in town. One of the principle purposes would be to avoid the huge traffic jams on the Freeway when the Rail is in. Ninety Nine per cent of the users understand that no one wants to ride the Rail Catastrophe and the City will be doing whatever the Rail Party tells them, to force as many users as possible to use the rail.

“Social dancers believe that dance is a series of movements that match the speed
and rhythm of a piece of music, but you may be missing the real essence of
dance. Dance is all of your emotions put together into a single piece."

So the bus system is going to be one hell of a big mess. We have just had a glimpse of how bad it can get in the last year. And the Rail Party is going to make sure it can get worse. It is not what the citizens want, it is what the Rail Party wants and that means money - Honey. Big bucks in profits. -- So on Wednesday evening there could be a Pau Hana dance at the "Mickey Mouse Lounge" in downtown Honolulu. Just to break up the week. Would start at 5:00 pm, like Happy Hour except that no one would drink so much. They would be social dancers and there would be dancing.

But people would socialize, dance and eat. Dozens of chopstick foods available so that you don't have to use your hands. And a juice bar so that dancers can drink gallons of that stuff if they wish. The key words are "if they wish." Not what the bar owners want but what the "customers" want. With a suitable cover charge it would become a regular sell out. But most Night Club Experts are still accustomed to paying the overhead with the bar tab as it has been done for decades. The dancers had the "bad" reputation of not being drunks. But the scene has been changing since the cover charge began to phase in. The freeway home would be a lot more comfortable one day a week.

The common question that gets asked in dancing is, "why?" That’s a good question,
but an equally valid question is, "why not?"

Pub's Side Note: Fortunately, I am meeting more people that have good speakers on their computers. With some good speakers you can play music that may sound better than your high class stereos. Or a good set of Earphones. I can give them some of my music which I copy on the Internet.
