The Nights

How about the four count? I am sure many of you have seen the Fox Trot danced on the even step dance sequence, just like walking, one, two, three, four. With the right music and slow enough to allow longer steps it can be enjoyed and even watched with pleasure. And of course, the two count is the most common accented step dance used throughout the world. The English Paso Doble  and the Merengue have been quite popular and the styling can be be quite different depending on the music and the interpretation. The Samba and the Bossa Nova? On a two count and a Chasse, probably the most unique movements in partner dancing.

"Do social dancers really dance first, think later? I suppose it’s the natural order.”

In West Oahu, the proposed Dance Pavilion has been cancelled to pay for the Rail Disaster. Which is just as well as the day of the Big Ballrooms and the Big Bands are over. For us, the vast number of social dancers, we can accept that and perhaps seek a better terminology for ourselves. So perhaps some Community Centers can be convinced to allow our type of Social Dance. We have been dancing in Malls, Gas Stations, School Cafeterias, District Parks, Community Centers and when we find a Night Club that accepts us we dance there too. This is now, the 21st century, Social dance is real and things are much different.

Some night clubs will eventually feature outdoor verandas or balcony areas, overlooking beaches. Looking Good. Meanwhile we must be careful of the ones that are too rootzi tootzi. And we shall get better organized and set up our own social dance clubs with the idea of enjoying the movement to music without a lot of cloning or excess individualism. And most of it based on the American Style of dance. We are already getting there, and we have a hellavah lot more people than anyone has realized. And when more people are aware of what we are not, then they will join us for the fun of it.

"Social dancers believe that for every minute they are
angry they lose sixty seconds of happiness."
