Dancing in Waianae

There isn't any? Yes, there is, just not very prominent in the news. First and foremost is Islander dancing, Hawaiian, Samoan, Tongan, etc. Then there is a smattering of Portuguese, Filipino, all which are mostly exhibition dances.

We may have to dance in the streets - but we gotta dance.

There is line dancing beginning somewhere but not many have heard of them and perhaps they wish to keep it private - their decision. But starting with the walking step they are doing well.

The walking step was the original, just left, right, left, right. In place or, forward a few steps or, backward a few steps - and side ways too. Keeping time with the beat and enjoying moving to the music. In modern social dances it is of course limited because so many other fancy steps have entered the field.

Waltz is the best example with some of the most beautiful music ever composed on this earth. (my opinion.) Most of it is with the accent on the one count which is where we are accustomed to enjoy it the most. There are composers that will experiment with the accent on the two or three count and they do a very good job. They certainly have the right to do as they wish.

However, social dancers are accustomed to dancing Waltz with the accent on the one count. We certainly have the same right to dance it however we please. So likes and dislikes exist in all dancing as in everything else - no hu hu, opinions differ.
