Line Dancing

By Roger Cheong, Pearlridge,

For beginners and wannabees, line dancing is the perfect place to start. First you get the exercise which is sorely needed by most over 30 people. Then there are many types of music out there so your ear becomes accustomed to our kind of social dance type music and it gets more beautiful every day that you hear it.

"Dancing is like dreaming with your feet!"

Then as you get into learning, just let your body move to the beautiful music you hear, and as naturally as possible. You will learn the necessary step movements but don't make too much of an effort to move to them. Let the body move on its own and however you feel it enjoyable. You will develop your own unique styling. Have you ever seen Spiderman line dancing?

We still find it difficult to get information to the readers on line dancing on the Island of Oahu. Many  of the groups prefer to keep the group as a sort of private club. I have yet to hear about line dancing in Aiea. Though I have heard rumors. I read that there will be line dancing at Mililani District Park and I believe they have some line dancing at the Crestview Community Center. So the Central Valley section seems to be opening up.

Some of the social clubs have line dance classes at the beginning of the regular dance class. Photo of the Kees leading the line dancing at Aliamanu Intermediate at the Dance Aliamanu class social submitted by Jimbo Johnson. The write ups of the sessions with photos are much more important than the initial advertising. Ten times the interested readership.

"Dance is the only art of which we ourselves are the stuff of which it is made."

No places to dance? We may have to dance in the streets.

OK, you guys there it is. That's all I know but if you know something, share with your fellow dancers. We, the reader/dancers of these blogs would appreciate it. We will give them all the publicity we can. Another thing, there seems to be more dancing places in Pearlridge than anywhere in the West. But not our kind? Why? How about Nix Performing Arts? They have a big dance floor, open it up for social dancers, - once a month would be nice.

Pub's Side Note: Comments section are opened and sometimes closed when we get too much comment spams. Those programmers are a uncivilized lot, they just don't care. I may try to open again end of month.
